I have an older sigma 70-200 2.8 lens that accidentally was hit on side with an aren't bullit, small dent on focus ring, will not zoom or focus and several interior elements are shattered or cracked, do you think it's worth repair, new one about 900-1000$
Thanks
Ps not stabilized, Sony mt.

How much to repair? Without knowing, it's hard to decide whether to repair or replace.

By the way, what is "aren't bullit" that hit your lens?

I'm guessing when you shoot a lens it is probably not fixable.

I think I would go for a newer lens. And stand farther way from who ever was shooting.:)

I broke the whole mount off a sigma 24-70 f2.8 and chips on the front glass.Sent the lens to sigma and they said $265 got the lens back in 2 weeks and it works great. You will have to send the lens to them before they will quote a price.

I just got my 70 200 f4 back from repair for a similar problem. It cost me two hundred dollars plus shipping. It was repaired by a local service which was about third less less that Canon's quote. If you would like more info pm and I would recommend this service for estimate before you authorize the repair. I have used their service three times and have be satisfied every time.

We have a camera repairman right here on the forum, Rick Riggins. He's been in the business for thirty years, works out of his house and keeps the cost down. I've had some work done by him and some others on the forum have to. Everyone sounds satisfied. His prices are very reasonable. Give him a call or email and see what he says. He has a web site, here's a link

Good luck

Thanks for all the advice, I was clearing my weapon and the slide slipped forward and the round fired into safe direction but one lens a cheap plastic one took a direct hit and shattered and the round hit the sigma lens on the barrel of focusing ring and dented that but impact shattered elements inside. I thinks I will just chalk that up to experience and learn to be more careful in future. I did carry weapons in my previous profession, LEO.
Thanks again
Frank

FK3, hey, assuming that bullet was meant for you, you are pretty darn lucky. Did you run down and buy a lotto ticket?!
Like a lawman saved by his badge.
What a story.

On the positive side of this......it hit your lens and NOT you....IMHO easier to replace the lens than yourself

I agree, Rick Riggins has done excellent work for me, specifically fixing a 24-105L lens clogged with silicon and a malfunctioning focus ring. the Lense came back perfectly functioning and clean. His price was about $75 plus shipping/insurance. and was returned in a reasonable time. You can also contact him:

Maybe Sigma will give you a break if you explain how your lens was hit by an errant bullet.....

I'm not going out on a limb when I say that repair would be more than the cost of an equivalent, used lens.

I don't know where this shooting was taking place, but if two lenses were shot, it sounds like a good firing range to avoid. :D
