I thought I would try this. It did take a ton of shots to get this.

Let me know.

It's adorable. That's an unusual way to light the eyes but it gives a peekaboo effect which is cute. The colors and expression are great. It has a very intimate feeling.

I like the pose but for my taste it's a little dark. I lightened up just a tad.

That does look better, Jerry. Now the other eye is visible too. Nice.

I was looking at the two and going back and forth, I think lightening it up took something away from the photo that made it so unique in the first place. Now its just a run of the mill picture before it had .... something.

As someone with kids and grandkids, I think you nailed it. If you look at a picture and it immediately brings back memories, what more can you ask after that emotional connection? Sometimes real situations are a bit dark.

I, too, prefer the original, un-brightened image.

A wondefully sweet portrait! I'd give much to be able to contrive that self-same image with my grandaughter, but such contrivance would never have this clearly spontaneous effect.

You gave it a shot and I am open to anything. This is why I posted it here.

Thanks! He crawled underneath my desk as I was checking my battery status on my camera. I told him not to be underneath there. That is when the fun started.

With children this young, you just have to be at the right place at the right time. Later in the day, I tried sitting him in a chair with afternoon light with little success.

I love the original. For me, much more special with just one eye visible and sly expression. Maybe crop a little off the top?

A bonus to have that good color and texture of shirt :)

If the shadow was just a little higher this would be a perfect peek-a-boo shot. It's a good one anyway, but I say have patience. Keep trying. It would be so worth it. What a great idea for a baby shot. :-)

This is one precious child - reading the expression on his face says tons about how he feels about his grandpa or gramma, the adoration, the trust, the curiosity, it's all captured in this child's face.

IMHO, this is what portrait photography is all about - sure, the lighting isn't perfect, the shadow under his neck looks like an on camera flash was used and is a little harsh, maybe even the skin is less pink than it is in person, maybe even there's some opportunity to work with the crop a little, but the probability of getting a shot like this in a studio with perfect lighting, well, close to zero would be my guess.

This photo is all about the expression on the face and what it tells us about this lovely child who still lives in that wonderful protective environment of a loving, caring family and hasn't had to yet deal with the unfortunate realities that surround us all.

Great shot, thanks for posting and sharing.
