Rudolf That is an awesome pic of the Badlands. Where was it at, or something close to it? I will be going through the Badlands this Dec. for a wedding in Spearfish, S.D. That I am 1 of 2 photographers for the wedding. Will be up there Mid Dec. til Jan 3. Any ideas like the one you got. Helmar

I like the textures and lines, and particularly that you have the foreground cliff with the opposing angle (plus that it is in shadow). Also like that you composed to fill the frame with just these wonderful rock formations.

This is really great on download. So much color and texture, and everything is nice and sharp. I love the composition. I like that this is close enough to really see the strations of color and the few little plants that cling to the sides. Excellent lighting.

That's a beautiful and original framing of that lovely layered formation. I wasn't clever enough to find that angle and shot only "big and wide" on it. I like the way it brings out the texture and light/shadow differences in the color. It still conveys the size even without the big view.

Beautiful shot.

OK, let me ask a really stupid question. Is this HDR or p/p other than the framing and cropping? I've been to the Badlands of North Dakota and they aren't as vibrant as this.

Even though South Dakota received records amounts of rain this year, I did use NIK plugin to draw out colors and textures within the photograph. As an artist, I try to achieve an image that draws a degree of emotional attention from the viewer. This is not what I saw at the overlook, but what I felt at the overlook you are getting. I sure hope this is not a sin!

You can always go in and crop an interesting part of your photograph. I do this regularly as long I shoot in RAW. Thanks for the comment.

Don't you think that if you had been there at a different time of day the colors would have been more vibrant in the golden hour? My point being that this isn't entirely an unrealistic view of the colors.

Spot on PP work! I'm especially impressed with your light balance and shadow work. But I'm equally amazed with the structure in the rocks.

I don't know if when you added the matte, it took out a few pixels from the perimiter, but I would have liked to seen your crop extended to include the bottom of the big V.

I really like this one!

On this color one you might try thinning the border a bit. The thick border catches my eye and I don't think you want that.

You might also want to try this one in monochrome. Some UHHers suggested that to me on a Death Valley one I was preparing to show at camera club and they turned out right: it got huge praise including monochrome being the right choice for that one. It has some more shadows so I don't know if it will work as well for this one but maybe worth a try.
