Canon SX50 so I know quality isn't super-duper. More interested in your thoughts on composition and the editing tweaks I did re exposure and levels using Elements 12. I also did a slight "HDR-ish" with Picasa. I guess I didn't keep the original unedited version. Sorry :(
THANKS!
f/8 is max. DOF with this camera. Focal length equiv. is 165mm.

Everyone should hit the download to appreciate this image.
I like the composition and think it works well here. Your foreground gives the photo depth and there are interesting details below the subject to discover. Your focal point is obvious and strong and the exposure seems fine. Thanks for posting this nice picture for critique Linda. 8-)

Thanks so much Bmac for taking the time to critique. I try to be mindful of not doing "postcard" shots, but I'm very partial to the beauty in and around central Washington :)
I like the look but the photo does not feel right. The photo seems tilted to the right. It might not be, but because of the barbed wire, the way the valley slopes my eyes keep getting pulled down and to the right.
I also agree with Mac, you have to download to appreciate.
I also think that you have plenty of reasons to want to capture the extraordinary beauty of you state.

Thanks so much for taking the time to view and comment, jrb. I double-checked on a grid, pretty sure it's straight based on the top of the mountain, but I can see why it might appear otherwise.
I guess my eyes just roll down hill. It is hump day.
Go back to the scene. Take two steps to the right so your shot can catch more of the dead weed against the fence post but eliminate the grain silos at the right edge of the frame. Set ISO to 80 or 100. I don't know why it's there at only ISO 250, but there is noise in your sky.
I wish these cameras had a capability for using a haze filter. The mountain looks good but hazy. A very nice de-noise action was done on a baby portrait done by Country's Mama today. It is a program by Neat Image. Forty bucks, and it works with PSE12. There is a free download you can try. If it makes a big difference on your images with noise, it might be a good purchase. I've put it on my own wish list.
All critiquing aside, I like the photo!

Just a correction: Mt Hood is in Oregon-- not Washington State

... as seen from Washington.

Thanks so much Hope. You have a great eye for detail. Yes, there was haze, unfortunately. The noise is probably from my HDR-ish effect. I don't know why I over-wrote the original; I usually keep them separate.
I'll look into that de-noiser. Thanks again.

Yes. As Heirloom noted, I was referring to what I can
see from my side of the river. You gotta share your volcano even if WA already has four :)

Now you have a good excuse to go back there again. :P
Heirloom, I found the original. I sure did brighten that brown grass - ha! One of many reasons I shouldn't edit on a laptop in mid-day in a sunny room...

Hi Linda, this original version shows no visible noise in the sky at all. I like the way you changed and warmed the colors in the edited version, but you could do this in PSE12 and forget Picasa HDR-ish because it seems to add noise.
