A friend of mine is looking for a compact, waterproof camera that can be used for underwater photography while snorkeling. I would greatly appreciate anyone's recommendations.

Thanks...

I bought this Canon D10 and have been very happy with it.
At the time it was the top rated compact waterproof point n' shot digital, but that was two years ago. There are likely more advanced options available today.

See many models here:

Just viewed an add for Adorama that had a digital camera that was waterproof to 100'. Can't remember the make but searching Adorama's website would most likely give you the answer you are seeking.

I did a lot of research before I decided on the Panasonic TS10. In side by side tests the TS10 had better color capture and fasted shot to shot speed. I am impressed with the durability of Panasonic cameras. I carried an SV-AS10 in a shirt pocket for the better part of 10 years and it still works, and still with the original battery.
One user review I read was posted by a guy who got a Canon, went swimming and it leaked. He contacted Canon and was told they do not guarantee any camera that is immersed in water. A water prof camera that has no guarantee it wont leak?
Anyway, dollar for dollar, the Panasonic has better durability and end results than any other I have seen.

Not 10 mins ago, I shot underwater pictures of my koi in my wife's pond using an Olympus Stylus Tought. Really good shots.

I have a canon d10 also and love it. 1. Don't need casing. 2. If you have vision problems, it has large led readout to change wb 3. I think it makes great pictures in and out of the water. Have him check out www.tropicalsnorkeling.com. The guy that owns the website is a photographer and keeps up with them. I'll start a thread And put some samples up.

I'm not photographer and I needed a camera for work and pleasure. this camera once set in the intelligent auto function does everything all by itself it truely is intelligent, never had to change a setting since just point and shoot and all the pictures are awesome, the camera can also take a beating and get right back to work highly recommended
