I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with the cameras listed above. I currently have the Canon T3i, with about 20000 Shutter count, but am not really liking it. It's a little difficult for me to use, and I have seen that the Sigma 18-250mm will work with the Sony. I know that Nikon and Canon use optical viewfinders, while Sony uses an electronic one. Is there any real difference between the viewfinders? I'm thinking about sending my camera into Adorama for them to give me a Quote, but I want to make sure that I really want to get rid of my T3i. I love the Sigma lens that I have, and want to get another super-zoom for my new camera if I get one. What are your opinions on this issue? Thanks for your feedback.

Dan, welcome to the Hog.
I will say, you're not asking for much.
Sorry, but I know nothing.
Good luck

Dan I have a Sony A77 which is like the 65 but with more bells and whistles. I love it! A word of caution though, if you can, handle one before you buy and make sure it suits your needs. It takes A mount lens's and the Minolta A's will fit, Sigma and the rest of the popular lens makers make Sony fit lens. I strongly suggest you read as many reviews (there's loads on Google) before jumping in and parting with your cash. The image stabilization is built into the camera with Sony, so all your lens's will be image stabilized which I find very useful, but as I said, read all you can first and also you'll find Utube has quite a bit about them too. Best of luck with whatever you choose Kindest Jim. As a thought if you can find the shots I've posted on this site I took them with the A77.

^^^Let add one thing; almost ALL of the reviews of the A77 are of pre-production or first run models.

Sony had a series of DISASTERS that plagued the roll-out of the A77... everything from the Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Japan and slowed product development, to the fire that burned down their warehouse in Europe, to the storm that destroyed their manufacturing facility in Indonesia.

Consequently, the initial units with firmware version 1.01 were buggy. Subsequent firmware updates not only erased those bugs, but improved overall performance in almost every software controlled category.

So the complaints you may see in those early reviews have all been addressed and eliminated.

Dan, the A65 is an EXCELLENT camera. REALLY good. A better camera in terms of video that both the D5200 and T3i combined.

Additionally, the image quality, frames per second, and utility features are as good as or BETTER than every other camera in it's class.

A VERY good piece of kit...

An example of the A77 image quality. Took this one earlier this afternoon in Panama City Beach near sunset...

I LOVE the EVF.

In fact, when I go back to an optical viewfinder... something I used for decades... I am totally dissatisfied with the experience REGARDLESS of camera.

The EVF on the A65/77 give you the ability to see effects and exposure corrections in real time and what you see is what you get. LITERALLY!

I love it...

I have had the A65 for almost 2 years and love it---a lot of fun in camera things you can do with the panorama feature and the picture effects. The 77 probably has all of those too.

Sony is a class act. They are always cutting edge therefore they seem to be a little out of step with the others. For instance, they added the in camera HDR feature to the cameras a long time ago whereas the others are now just adding that feature to there line up now.

The EVF is a different animal. It takes some getting used to, but like others say, you will learn to love it. It comes in real handy when shooting in low light conditions.

The a65 is also a SLT, not a traditional DSLR. It has less moving parts thus allowing for faster shooting rates. Pretty neat! You should probably read up on it.

As for lenses, you can't go wrong with a Sony. People knock Sony because they don't have a million and a half offerings like the other brands. Big deal. They have plenty of variety. In addition, as mentioned before, all Sony alpha cameras such as the a65, can take the old Minolta AF lenses with no need of an adapter. This will save you a ton of money and get you a high quality lens to boot! I have saved thousands by doing this.

Now then, to check out the I.Q. of a Sony, just look at a bunch of my posts, most of them are done using a Sony 75-300mm zoom. And it is the low end Sony model at that! Much better than the Sigma (I had one ).

I can go on and on but this is good enough for starters. Good luck!

^^^^The image I took above was a low light HDR with EV set +-4 and +1 for the overall EV.

Picture style was set at Vivid with +1 sharpness.

Handheld standing on a wobbly picnic table across the street from the sign.

I used the kit 16-50mm f/2.8 lens.

BTW, that was straight out of the camera; ZERO post processing.

I could crop and curve it to REALLY make it pop... but will let IQ stand on it's own two feet.

I've had an A-65 for over a year, and find it awesome, esp. for video and live view shooting.

The A-77 does come with a better kit lens, and has a more sophisticated auto focus function in addition to a more rugged body, but at a steep cost increase.

I upgraded from an A330 (which I just listed on UHH) to an A77...Love it so far. I use Sony, Tamron and sometimes my old manual film Canon lenses (with adapter). Up to 12 fps is awesome since I like to shoot airshows. Posted some Frisbee dog pics a month or two ago. Shutter goes up to 1/8000 sec if you need it and ISO goes as low as 50.

^^^The kit lens is GREAT for video. The SSM is quick and completely silent and the autofocus excellent.

The $700 stand alone price is steep... but some of the shots I can get with it are as sharp as the CZ 24-70 which costs 2.5 time as much!

My ONLY beef with the lens is the visible Barrel Distortion at the wide end... but with v 1.07 you can autocorrect in camera for that without losing detail.
