went to the st.louis art musuem..it's one of the nations best and it's FREE!!! (unless you pay property taxes in st.louis or st.louis county) You could take photos for days and days and not capture all the beauty. Posted is a picture of some greek icon....... i used my nifty 50 at 1.8 or 2.0 and did a tad of pp...feel free to like it, bash it, or make it better.
greek god with hoofs
Exposure, focus, color, composition, subtle background.... all perfect as far as I can see. Good job.
I like the exposure - a few highlights from the lighting reflections and nothing lost in the shadows.
It looks like the big f-stop didn't have enough depth of field though; due to the angle of your shot, the middle to the feet looks sharper than the chest and head.

I agree with everything HT is saying here, except that I have one little thing bothering me. It's the angle of your shot. I wish it was more squared up with the exhibit, and that the lettering on the sign below was not showing. Love the exposure and the soft background.

Your Greek god appears to be Pan, the god of shepherds and flocks, nature and hunting. He has the lower body of a goat, and your photo shows his pan flute. Museums are difficult venues for photography, as you have experienced. I'm sure you were not allowed to use flash, so I would say you did very well with what you had. Too bad; a bit of fill flash would have turned an excellent photograph onto a study about which a master sculptor would have raved.

Mogul's take is interesting. However, I rather like the BG evidence of museum ambience which suits the subject well. y'pays yer money...

I LOVE museums! :D I shoot in museums all day until my wife cannot stand it. I shoot almost entirely available dark even if they allow flash, which most do not (millions of peanut flashes over time add up to a LOT of pigment-fading ultraviolet which is why they have the rule, plus it's annoying for other guests). You probably already know that the focus is on Pan's right knee rather than his face. I overall like the picture. I would have made it exactly the same way, from the same angle, only being careful to place sharpest focus on the face. I've taken the liberty of finishing it as I would have finished it had I taken it: I've brightened it overall, being careful not to blow the highlights; I've removed the museum-goer in the far right background (seemed a little distracting in this instance); and I've added some sharpening. That's all I would do to it. I wish I HAD taken it!
Hm. Now I see maybe I could have knocked down the statue in the far gallery juuuust a tada little distracting. Oh, well
Dionysius, Bacchus, or Pan, after a night of heavy wine drinking and debauchery ..... ahhh, to be young again!

Yep Chuck. You beat me to the punch. The only thing I would have done differently is may be add a "Blur More" filter to the background, but it's beautiful just the way you left it.
