#1 had a few Picasa edits, then I downloaded my brand-new Elements 12 and did a couple of other things :)

Not sure I'm crazy about the composition. I do have a closer shot of foreground man in profile + a wider view that includes a little more of the river.

Would greatly appreciate your input and feel free to edit the original if you'd like.

The 35mm equiv. focal length was 675. f/8 is max. DOF on this camera.

I would like this image better without the tree stump.

I agree about the tree stump. And maybe tone down the highlights on the water a little bit.

Thanks Wendy. Even more toned down than #1, the edit? I think the sparkle is what attracted me initially, but I will give it a whirl.

Cloned, but not toned :)

Not sure this is an improvement. I toned down the highlights, made the shadows a bit deeper, and brought out the poles a little more. Also took out the stump.

In your newest rendition, I think taking out not only the tree stump, but that whole dark area, improves it very much!

Thank you Wendy, I appreciate your efforts! Here is with highlights toned down, though it looks like is a different way than you did. I like a teensy detail, so I won't darken the shadows; however, I'll download your version and compare to my own edits so I can see better how each version looks. Thanks again; it's so great to get input from others and try different tweaks.

Took various steps to tone down the glare without losing the sparkle - used Highlights a little, dropped the exposure to -0.3, upped the Shadows, dropped the WB temp a little and lifted the Black Point to keep everything silhouetted.

Yep, RG, I think you have it here. Nicely done.

Seeing Linda's just above mine, I'm left wondering if I should have tweaked the colour a little. Or is it more realistic toned down?.....

Maybe. The fishermen stand out better if the water isn't so dominant.

Thank you, R.G.! Now I will try to figure out how to do that in my brand-new Elements :)

I like what you did here R.G. Possibly the water color could be a little brighter, though, to keep the vibrance of the scene.

Nicely composed, interesting image Linda. The main focal point is well supported by the lesser one. If you are okay with scene alteration, the photo is improved by the disappearance of the stump as previously pointed out. 8-)

Thanks so much for your input, Bmac. I did some cloning of the stump and do like it of of there :)
