Hi,
can any one suggest me a good free photo editing tool to edit JPG / NEF file that are taken in my Nikon D 90?
I could not understand ViewNK that is given by Nikon.
I have never used it but many people on here do, GIMP is a free editing program.

If you can't understand ViewNK, forget Gimp. It is the most awful program, I have ever seen. Not that it is hard, but the interfaces all float everywhere! on your desk top. :(
Besides most editing programs that come with the camera, have a pretty low learning curve; compared to other available editors.
Picasa is free from Google.

PICASA is good and can you say FREEEEEE.
Picnik is also a good one from Google.
for basic edits - sharpening, contrast, saturation, hue adjustments, resizing, rotation (i.e. correcting tilted horizons), B&W conversions, stuff like that, Irfanview is tough to beat. it's also free.
www.youtube.com Then type in what you want to know. Will teach any and all software, cameras, jpeg, raw, ect.., just watch, and practice.

I use PhotoScape. Another good freebie is PhotoFiltre. Both offer a lot of choices for photo manipulation. PikNik is good but it costs $24.95 a year for anything but the most basic version which is free. By the way PhotoFiltre is spelled correctly. It is written in English but is a French designed program.
Go to faststone.org and download the faststone image viewer 4.6 and tutorial. It is free and very good. If you would like you can make a donation. The Tips online will help as well. Enjoy.
you might want to try a free program from Ashampoo. it is called photoplus starter.
another vote for photoscape, i recommend it to my students all the time and the feedback from them is always very positive.
Paint.net is very nice and simple for a free program. I would suggest downloading all the suggestions and try them out. Some are better with one tool and weaker with another tool.
If you get one that you don't like then uninstall it. After all, it won't cost anything.
Picnic is not free but very cheep and it has limitations but for what it is its a nice program . I want to learn Gimp. I would like to know why it is a bad program
