If you can't understand ViewNK, forget Gimp. It is the most awful program, I have ever seen. Not that it is hard, but the interfaces all float everywhere! on your desk top. :(

Besides most editing programs that come with the camera, have a pretty low learning curve; compared to other available editors.

for basic edits - sharpening, contrast, saturation, hue adjustments, resizing, rotation (i.e. correcting tilted horizons), B&W conversions, stuff like that, Irfanview is tough to beat. it's also free.

I use PhotoScape. Another good freebie is PhotoFiltre. Both offer a lot of choices for photo manipulation. PikNik is good but it costs $24.95 a year for anything but the most basic version which is free. By the way PhotoFiltre is spelled correctly. It is written in English but is a French designed program.

Go to faststone.org and download the faststone image viewer 4.6 and tutorial. It is free and very good. If you would like you can make a donation. The Tips online will help as well. Enjoy.

Paint.net is very nice and simple for a free program. I would suggest downloading all the suggestions and try them out. Some are better with one tool and weaker with another tool.
If you get one that you don't like then uninstall it. After all, it won't cost anything.
