Hi, my name is Vicki. I am from FL and I am the mother of five grown kids, Gramma to one beautiful 4yr old, wife, still work full time but love digital photography. I just got into it really as a hobby since my granddaughter was born. Probably the most photographed kid ever. I liked it better when she couldn't tell me NO MORE PICTURES GRAMMA!
I have a question for the forum. I am very inexperienced and my husband wants to get me my first dslr camera. It's either the Canon T3 bundle or the Nikon D3200 bundle. I am leaning more towards the Nikon only because I have used the Nikon of my son's - he had it pre-set for me. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

Lovely kids and pics!
I suggest you test drive both target kits, and choose the one that the operation of makes more sense to you. It's what works for you that makes the difference.
There are a whole bag of great brand names out there, try some! Canon and Nikon are the big name brands, but there are some out there that have very excellent features for those not so technical or pro-oriented.
May I suggest Sony (yes, Sony) or Olympus (well yeah both are big brands but do have an excellent set of user selections!)
Whatever you select, just have fun and surprise yourself with what how great the shots you take are.
BTW, I'm a grandpa of a couple who say "No more pichers granpaw! :D

Excellent photos and welcome. I agree with Katwilphotos go and handle the camera to see what suit you. I shoot Nikon mainly also have Panasonic, but Nikons because I used to shoot film with Nikon and the lenses transffered straight on to the digital.
Canon or Nikon is like Pepsi or Coke. It usually boils down to personal preference. But if your son already owns Nikon lenses which you can use, that is a distinct advantage.

Hi Vicki, welcome to the Hog. A couple of days ago Lee Blair asked this exact same question. Rather than bore other Hoggers
by repeating my answer please let me refer you to Lee's post and my answer.
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-162971-1.html I hope I may have been of some assistance to your decision.
BTW Your pictures are beautiful.
After giving it a second thought my recommendation would be go with the Nikon since you have your son with his Nikon as an excellent help source. Also maybe some times you could swap lenses with him for a shoot.
I agree about going to the local store and try them both out in your hands. Also keep in mind that the D3200 has twice the megapixel resolution than the Canon T3 has.

I would also suggest Sony or Olympus (Sony owns Olympus). However, to say that these camera's are not for pro's and the non-technical is not correct. You will find pro-photogs using both these camera brands. All brands have pros using their equipment.
Welcome to the Hog Vicki. Gorgeous pictures you have there. Make yourself comfortable here ;)
I really believe the fit of the camera is very important as well. Whether you choose Nikon or Canon, both will make outstanding pictures with your help.
Vicki, welcome to the Hog.
Personally, I'm partial to Canons. Look at the bundles at Costco, I think they're less money.
Good Luck and happy shooting.

All brands of camera will make good images, and you have some winners by the way already taken!
Choose what camera feels the best in your hands: weight, does it require you to 'scrunch' your fingers to hold it securely?, is it too heavy for you, or does it feel too light.
With your skill already apparent in your images, its merely comfort issue and determining which settings you like which make the images YOU like.
Welcome to the neighborhood! Real nice folks here!

I agree, you could borrow his lenses and he could help you with the set up...
I can see you will pick either nikon or canon so go for the nikon as it came a close second to the Sony a57 and as your son has nikon no worry
