I want to thank everyone who gave me some pointers on improving my eagle shots. Here's a few samples of how your suggestions helped. There is a competition at the end of the year, held at the Conowingo Dam, and I may try these. Thanks again.

Very nicely done! How is the eagle population currently at the dam? I've bee there twice, I know how difficult these images are to capture.

P.s. I'd love to see the third one original size.

I was using a Nikon D3200 with a Sigma 150 - 500mm. They stayed away from us, so these are cropped quite a bit. It was a pretty windy day too so the birds slowed down when flying into the wind but, it was like they were shot out of a cannon when they turned.

Right now the eagles number somewhere around 30 to 50. But once it gets colder up north, they will start to come down in greater numbers. Last year, in December and January, it was not unusual to see as many as 200 or any given day. That's when it gets exciting because they are competing - in the air - for the same fish. It's like an aerial dance between two, and sometimes three, birds. I haven't been able to get that shot yet but some of my friends have.

Here's the original. I'm guessing it was about 100 yards away.

Really? I thought by Dec, Jan they were gone? Both times I've been there it was Nov. They were between 70-100 each time. A guy told me (in fact, the guy that runs the contest) that November was the time to be there. He said after Thanksgiving, the numbers start to drop.

BTW When I said "original", I meant the donwloadable version of the cropped one you posted orinially (#3).
