Went to another local Zoo. Every animal in old style wire enclosures. A few had some glass panel into sleeping quarters so did my best. Took 15 shots of this little fella at various settings this turned out the best

This shot was taken handheld:
Inside dim naturally lit building,
Through a glass panel into an area light by a fluorescent tube.

D7000
Sigma 70-200 f2.8
Polarising filter fitted
Focal length 200mm
App f2.8
SS 1/125
ISO 100 Auto
WB Auto
VR on
Built in flash fired Rear Curtain mode

P&P slight tweak to contrast and shadow protection and slight crop

For the conditions I am quite pleased with the outcome wondered what you thought.

This is a wonderful shot. Definitely need to look at the "download" version to see how sharp it is. I don't see too much wrong...especially for the lighting you had to work with...I only wish mine were that good under those conditions! Like I mentioned before, it is very sharp, the detail in the fur is great and the colour is natural. The pose is perfect too. Good job!

Andrew, i love the expression on this guy. You've the eyes in focus, and I love the soft focus on fur one on his left side. There are nice highlights, showing off the colors in his fur on his right side. You've got a nice separation between subject and background, and the color of the soft background is perfect.

Haven't yet read any of the other critiques so if I am redundant I apologize.

I think your photograph has an interesting subject, is well composed and exposed properly. The background separation is good with no distractions. Focus is on the eyes, where it normally should be. Understanding that you wished to blur the background, perhaps you would have been able to decrease the aperture a bit in order to get more detail in the facial area. Just a thought.

A well done photograph, especially under zoo conditions. 8-)

Andrew, I agree with all that Bmac has said, the monkey's nose is a bit soft, but considering how difficult it is to get pictures of zoo animals behind glass you did a good job.
PS: Is the hedgehog in the pot? ;-)

Thank you so much for looking and commenting, as I said only 1 from 15 shots of this subject, My thoughts are that I would like it to be sharper.

To me it looks like the focus has missed the eyes and hit the forehead hair.

Thank you for your comments Sandra. It was a disappointing day over all due to the enclosures that most of the animals I wanted to shoot were in (wire and mesh all over the place or double fenced). But will have learned quite a lot once I sort the shots into good, bad and OMG the assess the metadata and my notes that I made.

Thank you very much for your comments. I have many years experience of taking photographs but really only been learning about photography for the last 2. As stated in reply to Nightski once I get to sit and look at the data on all my shots and the notes I made something will sink in and stay ready for next time.

Thank you for looking and comments Graham.

I thought after our meeting that I should also have a change of avatar, something that more reflected my name, hence my Wonky Tripod that I use at my woodland campsite.

It looks sharper and slightly brighter to me on this screen here at work, more like I was hoping for. What editing suite did you use.

Thank you for your input.

Thanks for looking. I normally have a 3 gallon dixie hanging on there so theres always hot drinks for the clients on the courses that I run in the woods. But thought the posh coffee pot looked a little more refined for this forum.
