which one would you choose.
Myself and a painter are planning a show in a local art gallery. His painting will all be in color and framed. The plan is to display one painting , one B&W one rice paper hung on clips on wire with no frame .Then repeat the length of the wall.My question would be which mode would you pick as the B&W'S would you use to complement the paintings that are mostly boats, seashore ,and wharves which have a lot of color. Please answer why your go with your choosing. P.S. the rice paper I,m thinking on using brings our a wide gamut of the grays. Thanks for your participation as it could have a great impact as to which way I chose.
lighter rendation
more an Ansel adams style (I hope)

I prefer #1. There is more detail in the water which will carry out the water theme of the other artist and help connect the two. They will already have enough separation/contrast by virtue of the different color presentation and the different art medium.
thanks Legion appreciated

Appreciate the comment that's 2=0

Number 1
thanks Russ.Question if you don't mind .Have you ever tried Agawami paper?
I think they are both good photos. This goes to personal preference. I see detail in both photos; but the second photo has more contrast in the sky and that appeals to me.
Not much of a fan of opaque black clouds, even if for effect. Number one is my favorite.

Thanks Bob ,No half boats in this one HaHa.
Number 1 - more impact due to greater tonal range. Took a look at the histograms. Done that way, #2 is underexposed unless that is the desired effect.

Yep. No strategic crops to be done here ..... but are you sure there ain't no wild life (intentional misspelling of wildlife) shenanigans going on back in the woods? You know them forest critters don't hide behind doors.
Since I liked Number 1 so well, and couldn't find anything about it I would change, I privately downloaded your photo and matted that puppy with a charcoal grey and black frame (but have withheld uploading it as I don't believe it adds anything to the discussion of photo choices). I will report, however, it adds a fairly classy "finished" look to your masterpiece here.

not necessary the desired effect .Asking what would go better with color paintings and it seem NO,1 is the way to go so far. Thanks for taking the time to comment ,appreciated.

No Bob never even heard any grunting or anything, but getting old and deaf.LOl. I don't know if you read that the way these are going to be showed for this show will be with no frame. Just the Image on a piece of Agawami paper hung by clips .Waiting for the sample pack ,do some test with different types of paper and then order a roll and get them done.BUT,will keep it in mind for the place I've got some for sale.
