Unshod hooves

Heading S. from Four Corners toward Cañon de Chelley I noticed this escarpment progressing and diminishing toward the East with a dirt track roughly following its course. in hat country the major color effect is that of he screaming complementary nature of blue sky and iron-rich sandstone reddish orange. Hard to beat! Winds were strong and clouds were moving swiftly ...interesting sky...but otherwise non-contributory to composition of perspective and leading lines. While setting up tripod with hanging weight of the rock/dirt bag I happened to look up at the cloud shapes and movement!!! Didn't wait to connect remote release and tripped he shutter with a well directed blow of my fist...well...not really... but it WAS quickly manually released! Within a minute the sky had returned to merely...interesting.

I am mostly interested in possible improvements by cropping, but any other constructive criticisms are happily solicited and gratefully received!

The title devolves from the only evidence of recent movement along the dirt road.

I'm on my iPad and will be off-line for a few hours, but certainly will return ASAP to respond to and learn from comments.

Here's my critical comment. Wow! I just can't see improving on this. I live in the southwest and this is a fantastic picture that captures all of what the southwest is about: color, light, great spaces.

The clouds & the road leads me right to the horizon. I love the fluffy white clouds against that bright blue. You captured all the colors perfectly. Your leading lines in this photo are fabulous.

Very, very well composed, contrast is great and you captured the moment, which is what we all try to do. If I have a complaint, it would be that you didn't allow me to see it full screen! It's one of those pictures that I think I could learn something from. Come on Dave, Please, please.

Me too, Dave. You should treat us all. You can stipulate that no one edits it, and I will make sure they don't.

Well exposed sweeping landscape showcasing one of the most beautiful areas of the United States. Your perspective and composition is spot on and the clouds magnify the interest and grandeur of the photograph. I like the view as is and would not presume to know how to crop it better.

I miss the area and you have brought back fond remembrances of it. Thanks for the thread David. 8-)

that lapse is not intentional, although I would ask for no re-working. Zhow do I do that? I'm on my iPad ...maybe have to wait til I'm back on my Puget PC?
Any advice gratefully received.

I see no need for cropping of any kind. You need all the curvature of the road, and the expanse of sky with clouds tells its own "big sky" story. I think it should stay exactly as it is. But bigger! :-P

I really like this photo, with that nice S curve in the rough road and a billowy cotton-candy parallel S curve floating above/left of it. All that detail in the cloud gives a 3-D appearance. While I wouldn't recommend a crop, the first version I saw was cropped (by my iPad, which sometimes has a mind of its own) right at the edge of that first clump of rabbitbrush. That version is pretty darned good too! When I looked at it later on my home computer, I saw the "real" version. Now I don't know which I prefer. Excellent composition, capture, and presentation.
