More Arnold's Flower Photos

I took these photos 3 days ago walking around my neighbor. Click Here http://bit.ly/t7p0f7 to view more of these photos. I was more experimenting using this close-up lens for these photos.

I use my Nikon D300S with a Nikkor 60mm f-2.8 lens. A Nikon SB800 with a diffuser was used to illuminate these flowers. Lightroom 3 was the only software, I used to enhance these photographs.

All comments and critiques are appreciated. Arnold

Liked them all. Number 2 does not seem as in-focus as the other two. Loved #1 I use the D-300 also.

Barry, Thanks for your comments. I really appreciate them. Yes, #2 was intentional taken focus so I would get a more artistic looking photo. Arnold

I just let nature provide the art. She is better at it than I.

Gail, I don't understand why you posted your photos on my thread. I didn't request anybody to add photos to my thread. All I requested is to have people provide me feedback and critiques about my photos. Arnold

I've been keeping a casual eye on new threads that don't invite add-ons and a lot of people just don't know about that rule, don't care if they are breaking that rule or are just looking for a place to plop their precious pictures.

Arnold, I can see how much you are concentrating on your new artistic bent. GAClowers doesn't understand what you are doing but I do. Keep practicing and keep posting!

Sorry, most of the time these threads are started with the intention of having others share. Guess I'm too new to recognize when they are to be private.

Well, it's real simple. It will say something like "please add your pictures". Lots of threads, including many of mine, don't say anything. So if you are not asked for pictures or critiques, don't add them.

I very much like your Turk's Cap Flower photo. Your focus on fine detail at petal edges is perfect. Limited DOF emphasizes your intent. Well done!

Personally, I prefer to limit excess background to emphasize the subject, like this:

Nionian72, Thanks for taking your time and cropping my photo and telling why this was your preference. I really appreciate it and it gives me a different way at looking at capturing and doing post process on my flower photos. Arnold

Your pink bud flower doesn't do much for me. The idea is quite common, and we all have a few similar images tucked away. My main observation about this image is that it has no point of focus.

Your bee image is a good start. DOF is paramount in insect photography, which requires good lighting. DOF appears a bit too narrow here, not carrying wings and eyes as sharp as they should be.

Practice, practice, practice! And if you are shooting at a low ISO, try shooting at 400.
