Tell me everything thats wrong with this.
Another shot different location, have to get him to wear a different jacket next time. He's always in the same one!
Would like to know the good and bad on this photo.
We were on Shelter Island just passing through, stopped for a few quick pics. It was about 12:30 noon, there was a large rock which he is leaning against to block the sun.
Taken at f2.8 70mm iso 2oo.

To my novice portraiture eyes, I see a well composed, pleasing portrait with even illumination over the face and good skin color. Nice photograph Emm. 8-)

Thanks Bmac, when I look at it on my monitor it looks brighter but looks flat when viewed on uhh? I feel like it is underexposed a bit here.
I like it a lot. It is well composed, and well focused. You used available light very well. The only thing wrong with it is that it's not on your wall. Excellent.

I would go by your monitor Emm. :)
Nice photo!
This is the type of expression that works for your husband.
He does much better with a smile than pensive. Looks to be taken on a cloudy day which makes the light a little flat... but I still like it. Would make a good stock image. Also a nice framed image for your home.
Congrats!

Emm, I'm know nothing of portraiture, but here goes.
He has wonderful expression. (Pale Pictures says that's the hardest thing, so good for you)
You have good separation from your background, and the background is not distracting.
I don't see any ugly shadows on his face.
I can't think of anything critical to say about this photo at all.

I make him try the pensive look because when he laughs or smiles his eyes disappear, lol
Okay, here is everything that is wrong with this Awesome, technically pretty much perfect outdoor casual portrait! Color is great. Background is smooth and in no way distracting at all. Cropped so the head is about 50% of the frame; eyes are looking right at the viewer; eyes are centered on the center line; shoulders are not square to the camera but turned; head is tilted ever-so-slightly to the far shoulder while the near shoulder is dropped: gives the picture terrific dynamism; light could pretty much not be better: It's soft but slightly directional from his left (camera right) so there is some modeling but not overmuch. Smile is utterly natural, not even a hint of forcing (forget pensive; we can see his eyes just fine). He loves that jacket because it looks great on him and makes him comfortable, so he looks comfortable in the portrait. So that's pretty much everything that is wrong with this Awesome, technically pretty much perfect outdoor casual portrait! :D :D :D

On that note I think I will frame this picture.

Hmmm,
You think shadows are ugly? It is shadows that give the face dimension. The only thing I do NOT like is that there are no shadows to give the face some personality. It is a nice image and I like it. But some proper shadow placement would improve it.
Of course maybe you mean there are no UGLY shadows, but attractive shadows are OK.:-)

I meant that there weren't any ugly shadows. And I did say, that I know nothing of portrait photography. I just commented on how I saw it.

Please send me the jacket. It's starting to get cold here in Michigan.

Emm, I'm sure it is his natural relaxed look but I think it would have been a lot better if he had removed the sunglasses from atop his head. It's most certainly a shot for the both of you to be proud of.
I'm sorry but I can't find anything to be corrected with the exception of the sunglasses.
