Hi all,

I look forward to a critique of the uploaded images.

I hope to model my critiques of these images by studying and learning from how you critiqued them.

It's the journey, not the destination that is important.

David

I'm just gonna say it's not so interesting to be looking up someones nose, uhm with that being said which picture did you want critiqued, the second picture seems to be out of focus more than a depth of field thing going with the foreground, I usually like the less is more but with this I think it needs just a little more, as far as the girls picture, busy and again not flattering to be looking up the nose just sayin

Girls sleeping: should have been shot from 2-3 feet to the right for a better perspective than straight on - would have solved nose problem while keeping the nice faces & hair. Crop to show faces and supporting arms only, but keep the window background.

Lake & island: should have been a great minimalist shot (see the photo contest section). Eliminate all elements except the island and isolate it in the lower right third of the frame.
Don't be discouraged, you're asking the right questions - it only takes a few small things to make a good image great. Lastly, try to pre-visualize the shot and see it before you lift the camera - it becomes second nature after awhile. - Peter

A good composition provides the viewer with an interest that either has or implies a story. I'm not sure of the intent here.

Not sure why, but I only see one photograph (sleeping girls) but I see reference to an island? Is something missing?

My guess in Nightski removed it because each post should have only one photo to discuss.

The lighting is pretty. I would have cropped more of the top out of the picture, to better keep the focus on the two road/rail weary travelers.

This note is a sincere "thank you" to you all. Finally, I have found a group whose members call it like they see it. Your comments are golden, and I thank very much for taking the time to make them.

I'll capture them and keep them as notes.

Now a question, how do I put into practice your comments? I can make corrections to the ones posted. It is just that the probability of finding similar shots is near zero (on a rock & role train, early in the morning).

My response to my question is "take your time even if you're being rushed".

Any others?

David

ps. Although I had read the rules the day before, I was too busy thinking about and posted not one but three images. My bad! Nightski reminded me of my error in a very nice way. I won't do it again, promise. (Lesson to David, read the rules before posting!)

To me your photo is endearingly interesting and nicely exposed. The focus is sharp where it counts and the blurred background shows movement which adds to the story. I like it. 8-)

I'm sorry if I sound harsh on my comments, I just don't know how to nicely say find a different direction when shooting someones face not to get the nostrils, street shooting is hard to avoid breaking the "rules" being that there are so many that people live by but I shoot when it feels right for me and I usually don't post my street sets because of fear that I have broken one of these rules....keep shooting, keep posting
