O.K.
Here was something I tried a few years back.
I was trying to shoot small toy cars, in a unique and different way, rather then the flat photograph.
It was my first attempt in shooting anything like this.
It took a great deal of time to set up.

Thanks,
Philip

Philip, what are you trying to create here? I'm confused. I see a plastic toy on tin foil.

I think you could improve the interest in the photo by including more props. I do like that the camera is at the same level as the toy. It has potential, I think.

Please help me out here. What does it have potential for? I don't think it is helpful to Philip at all to tell him this photo has potential. Some of his photos do, he needs to practice more with his models, but I do not see where this one is going.

I see using the "foil" material to set up concept of dirt BUT, might be better if you used real dirt like a plant bed, etc. Other than that.....interesting idea. This is only a suggestion to take or leave. Like the idea, though and it could be a relly neat shot. AT least you are thinkin'. Also liked your lighting.......kinda surrealistic.

This was just a try with an oldr camera.
I wanted to show some other stuff. I really want to work on my model photography more, and except your take on everything!

I think I understand what you are trying to accomplish here.
I think you might be interested in the following link. Done this way you don't have to worry about building realistic sets.

When photographing miniatures you need to have the set realistic and believable. By using tin foil you are compounding your lighting problems it is so reflective that you are fighting glare. Though I have to say that you have done an excellent job of lighting this bulldozer from what I can see on the thumbnail. I would love to see you give this one another shot with real dirt. Pile some up onto the blade, make sure there are tracks in the dirt.

If Philip were trying to create a scene with more than one toy, then it could be an interesting composition. As it is, I really only see a plastic toy and some tin foil with a neutral background. There would have to be more going on in the scene for it to be an effective still life. I would also use something other than tin foil. Maybe something that looks more organic. So maybe what I meant to say is that the concept has merit; but the execution could use some work.

I had thought the foil looked like Ice or snow!

Instead of the truck, photograph a miniature model of a space module in your setting. It looks like another planet with the foil and coloring. :-D
