I love the way the fog swirls as it comes through the trees.

Photo looked good until download. Not sure what type of PP work you did here but when downloaded it really kills the photo. Is this computer generated fog??

No. it is actual fog. I don't know what went wrong with the download.

I just downloaded it on my computer, and it came through just fine. Confusion. It was very swirly, fast moving fog coming through trees. I'm asuming the wind and trees is what made the fog movement.

The download file has quite a strange look on my computer too, kind of pixelated, like the file was too small and the computer is trying to enlarge it. It makes the fog look like smears of something. Not really noticeable on the small version. Looks like a pretty scene. Odd....

I love fog!! Ok, here goes: There's a lot of trees here and there's not a clear center of interest. That does not bother me as much as it may others (I take a lot of pictures of nothing). I think it might benefit from a crop. As it is, my eyes get lost in the mass of trees and I quit looking. I would crop this one into a portrait orientation, and in the original file, would brighten the tree that is on the far lower right border a bit so it can anchor the picture on that side. The sky will anchor the other side. I might also use the editing brush to add some contrast/clarity to the fog, but that depends on the status of the fog in the original file. The crop helps contains the eye. I won't try anything more than cropping myself because the download file is already a little too blurry and I could make it a lot mores.

I'd be interested to see the color version.

It wouldn't even let me download. But my eye wants to see more of the trees and fog that you have cropped from the top. The upward pointing pines and the fog make my eyes go up and then I crash into the top of the frame.
I like the contrast and the fog swirling among the trees. I just want to see more.

I'm so sorry people are having problems downloading my picture. I will try the original tomorrow and see if it works better.

Hey NCWLinda, is it fog or smoke?
Clicking Download gives it an oil painting feel with the fog on the left looking chunky and the fog on the right swirling with defined pattern marks on the right.

To critique -
I am not a fan, not because of the fog, but more of the lack of subject matter and I too would like to see the color original. The problem is that the fog and the trees are too similar in tone and the trees have too little definition between them. What do you think of a crop? Steve

What it looks like is that to achieve the look you used your levels and tweeked them to much. The same occurs in clear skies when you try pushing the limit. Also I get the felling that you shot this in jpeg and played with it and maybe lost pixels.
Like St3v3M ,my first impression was that it looked more like fire than fog. I like the crop that was done and the ridges that you see in the fog could be subdued with a very soft blur brush like a flat fan .tone down the opacity and flow

Several things: the fog was already mentioned, but I'd prefer to see a greater tonal range throughout the image.
