I have a Nikon D90 for about three years I'm looking to update. I take photos of my nieces and do some landscape. My issue with the d90 is it's poor in low light. I've been looking at the D7100. I have three lenses 18-105 which came with the camera. A 18-200 3.5 VR11 and a 50 mm fixed which I like for portraits. Any suggestions on a camera and or lenses thanks.

D7100 is a good choice.

If you've got the money the 7100 is your best choice. Otherwise a used or refurb 7000 would still be a significant upgrade to your D90. The 7000 series is much better in low light.

I would recommend the D7100 and the 85 1.8...although a FF camera will give you a wider view for landscapes.

Thanks for the suggestions eventually I'll buy both but for now it's one or the other.

I really like Nikon's 35mm f/1.8 as a "normal" (as in field of view) lens. It is pretty inexpensive, light, fast and very sharp. While setting up for landscape and sunset photos using my trusty 18-200 VRII I find that I frequently end up with a focal length around 35mm. In those cases I switch to the 35 mm lens.

Do not blame the camera. You have told us nothing or shown pictures taken by the camera or explained what the settings are that you used. This is t he first thing everyone will do when the picture quality is poor is to blame the camera, never t he photographer.

I'm not blaming the camera. It's just nott great in low light. I just wanted to know thoughts on the d7100 as I have read it does better in low light.

here is a landscape photo. I also think it would be sharper with higher megapixles.
