Does it matter if the printer is on or off when it is not used for a period? Mine is an older Epson R2400.
I leave mine on all the time.
On most of the time. If it is storming, I turn it off and unplug. After the storm has passed it goes back on.
I turn my Epson off. It is 3 1/2 years old and still prints like the day I bought it. About 4 years ago, I read a tip saying to cover the printer with a plastic bag to keep the print heads from drying out and it helps keep dust out of the printer. Since I had problems with dry print heads on other printers in the past, I have done that with this printer.
From what I have read over the years, I would say turning off the printer allows the print heads to be protected from drying out, more than leaving it on. If you are using it throughout the day, then probably no need to worry. I would say that it is kind of like parking a car in a garage or covered area, as compared to exposing it to the sun.
I read a lot, but forget most of what I read. So if I am wrong, please forgive me.

I guess I am different from you all.As soon as I finish printing, the printer goes off but I don't print a lot so maybe that's why!
I use to leave mine on all the time and never could figure out why they didn't last as long as I thought they should...
Then I figured out why !!

Off, can you imagine how much waste in electric and problems globally if everyone left TVs, printers, computers on all the time
I keep mine on BECAUSE the full cycling at startup wastes a lot of ink needlessly. Like said before if storm is coming and I think of it I throw my "everything" switch in office and the mothership and all her babies are offline.

what does the cost of the electric on standby come to over a year not to mention the cost to the environment
My Brother printer turns off by itself after a few minutes of inactivity. But I imagine there is a standby function, as it comes on very quickly when I'm ready to print.

Thanks to all for your helpful replies.
Most of you turn off your printers, some to reduce unnecessary energy consumption, some believe the off position helps preserve the print heads. Those who leave the printer on believe this avoids ink loss when the printer charges up as it is turned on. I searched Epsons's web site and FAQ's and got no results. Since Epson is silent on the issue, I will turn mine off.
