Great set! I like'em all. I'm sure that your intent was not to tell a mineralogy tale, however I'm keen on knowing is that rock formation granite or sandstone? The lighting of the day makes my analysis ambiguous at best. Do you know? I have seen some evidence that the "Canadian Shield" goes all the way through Indiana, but I haven't seen this kind of quality pictures to inspect as evidence.
OK, yeah, I'm a rock geek, nature nerd.
Still, very nice set! I hope to go there one day.
Thanks katwilphoto I appreciate it.
It's sandstone, I don't think there is much granite in Indiana, or if there is I don't know where it's at. Southern Indiana is well known for it's sandstone, there is a lot of it in monuments in Washington D.C. There is another sandstone gorge near this one called "Falls Creak Gorge Nature Preserve" nicknamed "The Potholes" due to it's unique formations in the bed of the creek where the canyon narrows. You can see a picture of the potholes at my first post here:
Also nearby is the waterfall in Williamsport, it's the highest waterfall in Indiana. Though depending on the rainfall amounts there is not always water going over the falls. All three can be seen in one day and are all quite lovely.
If you think you might get to this area sometime contact me in advance and if I can get away I will play tour guide for you. :)
