From the airplane, leaving Las Vegas, headed home to Florida. I always sit on the left in the window seat to see the Dam and the Grand Canyon. Shot through an airplane window with my Elph 330
I've never seen the angle you captured in #2. Gives a person a better perspective of the work done by the dam. Great shots
I agree, that is a neat angle. I flew over the dam years ago on a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon from Vegas. These were taken from video, using a miniDV camera.

Great shots Bloke, very cool to see the dam before the addition of the bridge!

Jeez... I hadn't noticed that! Mine were taken in late September/early October 2001. The road used to go right over the top of the dam. A couple of hours after flying over it, I drove across it on my way to the Grand Canyon. Unfortunately, this was just after 9/11, and the security was somewhat hightened. The visitors center was closed, and you couldn't get close to the dam on foot. I shot some video, but it wasn't good, I just couldn't get a good angle on it.

Thanks for posting your pictures. Hell I didn't even know there was a bridge there now. I haven't been there since 1997. Other than the bridge not much has changed other than there is more water there now. When I was there the water tables were down considerably.

The road still goes over top of the dam but to alleviate traffic issues they opened the bypass bridge in 2010. Security is still very tight, they won't allow anyone walking on the dam after dark but you can shoot it from the parking areas.
The bridge has a pedestrian walk way that allows you to see the dam from 900 feet over the Colorado River. It's the second highest bridge in the country. I'm afraid of heights, so I'll stick to the views from the airplane or the parking areas at dam level! :-D :D

LOL dragon64~ Thanks for the comments! They've had a very wet year, they even had water in the desert when I was there in January and in October, that was a first for me!!

I know just what you mean. I would love to get photos from on that bridge, so long as I didn't have to go out on the bridge to get them!
I had the same sort of experience at the Grand Canyon - have you seen the glass half-bridge that sticks out over the edge??? Eek! I was scared stiff just watching other people go out on that thing!

LOL~ I have seen the walk out, not in person and NO WAY would I go out on it. There were several areas on the south rim that I wasn't even able to follow the path because of the drop off was so steep and the path was right on the edge.
Sometimes the height disadvantage becomes a blessing in disguise. While I was off trail I found the burial site of Charles Brant and his wife Olga circa 1920-21. I'm sure not many people happen across their grave site as it was way off the main trail.
