Taken in Colorado this year.

To my eye, you need to lighten the shadows up just a shade. There's probably some interesting stuff in there. (Notice you don't have a Download so I can't tell if it gets lighter at larger resolution)

I find the composition ugly and not pleasing.
The one laying on the ground at the front blocks the eyes, the stuff on the ground behind is messy, and the slanted one further blocks the image and even if they were all gone the standing trees don't work either.

Oh my, to me that cries out for color.

This is a snapshot, not a photo. What's the subject? The half trees I see?

I love the lines and the constrast of the white bark of the aspens against the dark. My eyes are led into the forest. This is a hard thing to achieve without ending up with a clump of trees. I have seen it done a little better, where the avenue leading into the forest is a little more defined, but I believe that was at a tree farm and the rows were straight. Good job finding that little avenue in a wild area. Love the contrast, don't lighten too much if you do at all.

I'm not one for B/W photos, I think I'd prefer to see this one in colour.
The slanted tree isn't so very bad, I can step over that.
But the tree trunk on the ground in the bottom of the photo, is preventing me from walking down that little lane at all.
I wonder if cropping the bottom part off the image will help.
Unfortunately, that little lane seems to go nowhere, but comes to a "dead stop" in a very dark area - not at all inviting for me to come and explore.
Having said all that, I do like the pale trunks in sharp contrast against the dark back, and the scars on the tree trunks taking away the "blah" feeling about tree trunks.
All of this more an emotional opinion than a technical one, I'm afraid.

Bushido,

I like the main concept and the composition for the most part. I would agree with Bob Yankle and Nightski to lighten the shadows just a tad - not much though at all! Maybe you can merely up the highlights just a bit which will often times lighten up what you want just enough?

Oh, I may have tried to move that small 'log' in the foreground, before shooting, so it is vertical (pointing into or towards) the main wooded area to increase the natural lines of the photo?

Just beware, if upping the highlights a tad, that the bark of the trees doesn't get too 'bright.' They look pretty silvery right now in this photo you have uploaded. It would be great if you had checked the 'store original' box so we all can have a better look. :) Generally, a very nice shot.

Best Regards,
Tom :)

Thank you for your thoughts lighthouse. As the old saying goes "Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder."

Thank you djtravels for your comment. Again I quote an old saying "One man's trash in another man's treasure"

EstherP, emotion is what most artists are looking to get from a viewer. Whether the emotion is good or bad it is a lot of the time the objective.
