I shot this yesterday at an empty beach in Westport CT. What do you think of it? I cropped it and edited it in PS.

thanks for your time

Cool idea and photo. The idea does not need the rocks but does need greater contrast in the chairs. I think doing that you will have a super photo.

Does nothing for me...Sorry....The oof rocks and the line-up of chairs form two barriers across the picture. Nothing really to hold the attention. Was this taken with one of your 'expensive' cameras?

The row of chairs, the water, the skyline, and the sky make their own photograph together. They produce the layered effect, a strong composition by itself. Block the part of the foreground with the rocks, to see that cropped view.

Here, the rocks in the foreground distract, particularly the white one due to its contrast with darker rocks.

The main subject consists of the row of chairs in relation to the other image elements.

Let me please suggest you study composition, framing, and point of view. Even a mundane photo will improve if properly presented in its own terms. Your photo has that potential.

There is something about a deserted beach closed for the season that makes one sad for the loss of spring and summer. I titled this "Summers End".

Of general interest, that is Cockenoe Island way off, also owned by the town of Westport. The beach in front of you is where the British landed in April of 1777 to march north to burn Danbury.

Too many subjects--- The rocks, the shore line, the chairs , the skyline, and the storm clouds...

A lot to like here. mood, texture, layering, simplicity, and muted colors. Time of day captured nicely via a good exposure.

The trio of the chair, umbrella, and platform form a triangle for a strong composition in addition to the horizontal layering effect of sky, tree line, water body, and shore.

Suggestions for improvement:

1. Crop out the distraction in the lower-right corner. The image will become tighter, too, and a little more balanced.
2. Remove some of the shadow from the tree line, but not too much. The shadow helps set the mood.
3. Align the image for the horizontal and vertical lines. The framing will then suit the eye better.
4. Consider a tighter crop inward using the upper-right and upper-left corners, to reduce the sky area slightly while centering the chair, umbrella, and platform. The image will become simplier and stronger from this crop.

Do not change any colors or hues. These seem just right -- at least on my computer monitor.

Your photos indicate you have an eye and the skills to take a good photograph. Like the rest of us, you just need more practice to gain the experience to do your best to bring out the potential in your photographs.

I've taken the liberty of downloading and slightly editing your photo as an illustration of how it looks using my suggestions. Note that in the editing software, I saw a crop proportion of 5x7 as producing a simplified, balanced photo.

Good luck.

Any time you ask what do you think of it, you'll get many answers, some valid, some not, some crazy! The only real answer is what you think of it. You posted as so you must think it's nice. I happen to like it! As is!

I quite like it and think it's got plenty of potential. To be brutal though I would get rid of the white rock (the others add to the depth, for me, and are important in the general composition) and straighten the horizon. I like the softness. It's obviously deliberate and adds a certain dreaminess to it.
