It is firework season in the UK and I am the proud new owner of a Nikon D5200 - put them both together and what do you get? Well i stood in the wrong place and used the wrong lens (telephoto) - i was far to close to where the fireworks were exploding however i did end up with some abstract looking shots. All critique and criticism gratefully received. Thank you!

Not your typical fireworks image. I really kind of like it though. It is abstract and it is strange how the lines hang down from the white areas. Cool shot, I just don't know what I would do with it.

Yep, we make do with what we've got. I like this, especially the wispy, "ice sculpture" in the center.

I like it. Reminds me of a palm tree.

It may be a little over exposed. But I still like it.

I noticed your exposure was for 4 seconds at f-5.6. You might try this the next time you get to shoot fireworks.

Shutter speed=BULB
f-stop= F-8 or F-11
ISO=100
Leave shutter open for 2-4 bursts.
Close shutter. Check results and adjust exposure accordingly.
Repeat.

Hope this helps. Keep shooting. Keep up the good work. :-D :-D

Al's solution is the way I shoot them as well. The ISO and f/stop settings give you a nice, dark sky in the background against which the fireworks really pop.

Thank you Bob, i had been looking at the wispy smoe as an annoyance but i see what you mean, there is a shape to it.

Thank you Al. great advice, i did have camera on bulb mode and just clicked with a shutter release for the length of time i guessed might give me a good capture. I do fet a bit confused with the F numbers at times and forget to step up or down when i should, i tend to rely on shutter speed to much i think.

Well, if you make a mistake, it's pretty cool when it turns out like this. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think it a pretty interesting and fun image.

I like it. I think I would experiment with different colors or WB to see if there is a series in these shots.

NEVER, NEVER admit to a mistake or luck with your photograph. Always insist that the photo came out just the way you wanted. If you say it with enough conviction, loud enough and often enough, everyone will accept it as the whole truth and nothing but the truth. 8-) 8-) :lol: :lol: :lol:
