Last night in the rain was the last game of the season. It rain really hard most of the night but for the deciding drive inthe 4th quarter the rain broke and allowed the passing game to open up. We won on a 4th and 25 touchdown pass with under a minute to go. These two shots were captured of the moment.
Shot at 3200 ISO with a Nikon d800 and f4 300mm lens.
Hope you enjoy the moment. For the record, I shot these from across the field. I think that speaks volumes for the quality of the D800.

Nice action shots Larry.... particularly given the poor conditions of light and weather. And I agree with your D800 comment. It's also interesting the see your ISO at 3,200. Except for deliberate set-up shots like portraits & landscapes etc, I now use auto ISO nearly all the time and don't really worry about how high the ISO goes.
Having grown up with film when ISO 400 was considered fast, the high ISO performance of the new breed of high-end digital cameras never ceases to amaze me. Again.... nice shots under adverse conditions

Lights in High School stadiums around here are just simply awful. I shoot all these games at 3200 ISO with the camera on manual. The dark background would drive the ISO higher if I used auto.
Like you I come from the era of 400 ISO being fast and remember "pushing" film to reach 1600. These new cameras just amaze me (but I'm glad I have it).
Just a note on the D800. I really like the resolution of the camera but my D300s seems to track moving subject better than the D800.
Anyway, thank for the positive comment.

Thanks for your observation on the D300s v D800 re. tracking. Will have a go myself and let you know my result.

Good action shot.
Great action shots!
I shoot soccer with a D3s using auto ISO.
I shoot in the Manual mode and it works fine - just set the high and low ISO values you want to work between and dial in your aperture and shutter speed and the camera will pick the best ISO value - makes it a cinch to get consistent exposures during changing light conditions.
