For sure negative space. This picture is all about shape and form. The dark area around the lamp is the negative space the lighter area that is the lamp is the positive space.

I suspect that the concept was so readily grasped is likely the reason for so few responses.

Though this could easily have been reversed with the white negative and white positive. Depending on the subject color has little to do with it.
