Hi my name is Sheila and I have been exploring my creative side with my current camera and looking to Purchase either the Nikon or Canon EOS Rebel SL1. Still a lot to learn and hoping to pick up some tips from here maybe.

Welcome Sheila. I was at a CostCo location yesterday and saw for the first time how physically small the SL1 really is. I'd be concerned about how handy it is when a larger lens mounted. Otherwise, the technology and price are right. Look too at the Nikon D3100. It's not the most current technology from Nikon in the D3XXX series, but the price is low with the D3200 also on the market.

Welcome to the Hog Shelia. I agree with Chg Canon, I think if you visit Costco, Best Buy or WalMart you will be able to see both side by side. Nothing like handling a camera to see if it feels good in your hand. I shoot Nikon and Chg Canon shoots, well, you guess. ;) Both are good cameras in their price range. Good luck with your decision.

Welcome...are you looking at the sl1 because of the size? If so, don't rule out mirrorless cameras like Sony, Olympus, and Panasonic.

Welcome to this site of wit and wisdom. I'm new too and learning a lot. Also from the DFW area. Do you know about the Photo Expo coming to Arlington Nov 16-17? If not check the Star Telegram or call Arlington Camera. A good place to learn.

Check the cannon store. They have some good buys on refurbished and you get a one year warranty the same as their new cameras. I bought a 7D this way and it's just like new....Rich
