Some good advice from a friend: Before you put your camera on the tripod and start shooting Use the camera in hand and view the different possibilities there are to the scene and location Unless you only have a few minutes to get the shot

This applies to Landscapes

I agree. Although in this case I did not have a tripod. :D

if you were shooting for National Geographic. you most certain got the shot .
I have seen many that were published nowhere as good as this .

I have to honest Bmac, its a pretty ordinary photo. I'd call it a snapshot.
Yes it has different colours but its mostly brown and green, not a pretty orange, red and yellow like I want fall shots to be. Maybe it would look better at a different stage in autumn.
The composition doesn't really do much for it either.
If I am after the story from the photo all I can see it saying is "scrubby riverbank".

overall: Excellent
color: that too is vibrant
composition: Yes, i agree that the white ripples are a little distracting. But that can be toned down. Good shot otherwise.
