I'm thinking I'm not qualified to critique this shot. I will at least tell you what I see.

I think this is beautiful. The lighting is very nice. However, on download it doesn't look completely focused or something.

I'm sure you'll get plenty of others here more qualified knowledgeable than myself to help you out.

I like it. The way the sun is blocked just enough to add light to the scene, but not enough to overpower it. The reflection in the silky smooth water is great. My attention is drawn all the way through the photo. My only thing would be if the shore was illuminated slightly to bring out detail, minor minor. Nice shot imho.

There are two things keeping me from enjoying this image. The first is that the dominant object (dead tree?) is of an uninteresting shape to me. The second is my brain doesn't want to accept the fairly sharp edge of far shore reflection in the water when there is fog/mist in that area.

Could be a very appealing photo but it appears to suffer from camera motion. A tripod would help that.

Did you sharpen it? Looks like you are getting a halo around high contrast edges, often a byproduct of sharpening too much. LR can take out some of this.

I like everything but the stump... wish it were the original tree or a boat or anything else. Sort of a Lorax human/ruined/sort of thing. You can see it was cut. It does block the direct sun and thus affects the entire shots lighting, which is indeed a proper positioning for you to get it right- quite a nice touch...

I would have shot it too, the sky is great and technically a good shot. But in the end, i would have thought... damn... too bad it is just a pretty stump. Unless that is your purpose of course.

I like the serene feeling and color in this photo, but there are two things that bother me. 1) the dark area is concentrated on the left side of the photo. It looks unbalanced. 2) I don't enjoy the shape of the tree stump in the water or its reflection. It is not a shape that is pleasing or interesting to my eye.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to critique this image...very much appreciated! I was hoping the stump was interesting...but I truly see why it is not now. (I did do a shot of the stump as the main subject and will post it later for a critique). Also I agree it is over sharpened. Just an FYI I only have Elements11 to work with. I often make the mistake of trying to make them too vibrant and often the sharpening does cause some issues. :-) I was trying to make the mist show and lost its effect through PP. I am submitting a different view of the lake and tried to keep the mist showing through. I did use a tripod but I think my mistake was the DOF. I keep forgetting that if on a tripod I can do a longer exposure to get the light...sigh... Let me know what you think of the different view, etc.... hope this does not break the rules...let me know if it is. Thanks again for the critique.

I like your second one very much, as well, and for the same reasons as Heirloom mentioned. Great placement of your horizon line.

I like it, but I think it's more dramatic if you crop some of the dark area from the right (not too much), and from the bottom about half way to the base of the tree stump. Try it, see what you think.

Thanks RMM... It does create a more dramatic shot! I think it brings out the mist much better and makes for a "cleaner" shot! Thanks for your help!
