This could mean many different things to different people. I think the image shows Christian ideals and promise of hope, solace, forgiveness, life eternal, and many other things of deep meaning to the human soul. I like the white sky which seems to symbolize heaven, and the foggy steps which could mean an after-death experience, or it could mean the confusion a person goes through before they find their way to a saving faith. I think each person can find their own personal meaning in this image.

For some reason I am thinking of someone in a wheelchair or on crutches and how difficult it would be for them to make it up there.
Like some religious groups that have rules that try to keep others out..The old "we are right and you aren't" "We have a corner on heaven, and its too small for you"

Just me, but I would reverse the lighter steps so they were brightest at the top and got progressively darker the lower you went (as if emanating from the figure at the top of the stairs). But I'm curious, when you colored/lighted it the way you did, what was YOUR intent? I do notice that it's almost as if the viewer is emerging from a fog, and that the clear answer is right in front of them, albeit at a higher plane. (This is the kind of rambling thoughts you get from a Philosophy major at 3:00 AM).

I also notice that most of the comments here are speaking of the meaning evoked by the portrayal, rather than its photographic merits. In that respect, you've probably won some major points. Good art is just that ..... it means different things to different people. As before, I love your matting technique

Wow, I agree with everyone that has posted already. I couldn't download to look more closely so technically all I can say is that the sky is blown out. However, it works here. It helps evoke the spiritual feelings. As someone of the Christian faith, I'd hang this in my house.

Looking from a non-faith, but artistic/photographic standing, I wonder why someone put that statue so close to the steps lol. It does appear so close that it would impede foot traffic.

I suspect it may have been staged there for this photo then moved later.

Al, I like the leading line of the stairs which makes for a strong composition. Personally, I would rather have the bottom of those stairs in focus rather than blurred and would lighten the dark rock on the left just a touch in post processing. Nice photo. 8-)

I like some of the discussion above but will limit myself to the composition. They did a good job on the positives so I'll focus on things that might be improved.

The frame is too large and detracts. A simple border, perhaps of a color in the image, might help.

More space is needed above the statue's head.

The statue should be sharper and perhaps clarity added to make it Pop more.

The steps on the bottom should be leveled. (Or copped about 1/2 way up where they are more level.)

The blur in the foreground is distracting. (A dark vignette might work better.)

This observations are intended to help your image convey your intent more...but they may be off base because I don't know your intent.

MtnMan I agree with all of the compositional things, but I like it because it is imbalanced, and gives me a sense of unease. I think some clouds behind the statue and in front of the trees would be perfect

Another amateur comment here !
I think the picture is exceptional just as presented. My first and immediate thought was "Ahhhh, the stairway to heaven". My impression was that of coming out of the dark and murky present into the welcoming arms in the pure, whiteness of the unknown.
I am not a religious person, but this photo touches me deeply. Congratulations on a fine photo :P :P

Here's an idea of what I'm suggesting but you'd need to do a bit more carefully on full size image.
