I took these awhile ago and thought it fit in with the close-up thread. Please give C&C. I need info on everything, composition, exposure and PP. I really want to learn to be better at photography. I love it, but know I have a lot to learn. Most of my shots get deleted(out of focus, settings not right). Please help!

The only thing I see that I would change is the bright white backgrd of the first picture . If you have a photo program like Photoshop , elements , etc . It would be very easy to dual the white some , change the white backgrd color to a softer color , etc. The bright white takes my eyes away from the main subject some . But as the photographer , it's your choice I aways say . Hope this is some idea you were asking for . Great shots all 3 , Tommy

You are right, the white bckgrnd is distracting and annoying, and too bright. Thank you for taking the time to look and comment.

Someone tell me I am wrong, but I think all are overexposed. And that caused a loss of "richness" in the colors.

Go for it! I would love to see what you can do. I am just learning PS 11 and trying to learn camera, and PS11 is just overwhelming at times.

Ok, I'm confused. I used PS 11 to "fix" my shots with color enhancement. I thought they would look better if the color popped. I just can't decide what will look good to someone else. Maybe I should just worry about what I think looks good. I will work on the over exposure issue. Thank you for your input and comment. It helps a lot.

Richness not only means color but also the tonal differences between colors as well as saturation. The reason why I said " someone correct me" Is I know my view of color is only mine. Since I don't sell photos I have no one else to please. I have found that if I under expose about 1/2 stop I can get to the final image I like more easily. This is probably because I am not very good in PP.
I am also looking at bird photos a lot since I am putting together a guide of local backyard birds for my Biology students. That said I really like the bird looking over its back ( possibly a female house finch).

OK, I'm going to sound dumb, but what are tonal differences? I also do PP to look good to me, but I need a lot of experience in PP which I do not have yet.(and what will look good to someone else)

A guide to backyard birds? I would love to have a copy!!! Georgia maybe different birds than Arkansas but I love to look at bird pics. They are one of my fav subjects besides macro bug
pics.

You do not need to be 'corrected'. We all have our preferences how we like things. I thank you for the time you took to look and comment.

Beautiful images, if only mine were as sharp and clear.

The people at macro and Birds in flight sections get the credit because they pushed me to where I am. (Also the 12,000 images I took in 6 months)

I found that when I took a picture the sound made the hummers back off the feeder by about 6 inches so that's where I set my shot. I always focus on the eye so a side on shot works best. After the birds get comfortable with the flash 2 feet away, I cover all the feeding holes except the one that gives me a side on shot. Then I just wait. And take bunches of pictures, they seem to get used to the flash.
