Apparently I screwed the filter onto my lens a little crooked and now I can't get it off. Any suggestions? I tried using a rubber jar grip to no avail. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hope that's a joke
NEVER
It was a joke but if the parts are metallic and it is placed carefully (e.g. with a swab) it might do the trick.
Try pushing the filter tightly against the sole of a walking/running shoe and turning the lens. I have used this method in the past and works fairly well. Not so sure this will work if the threads are crossed.

Thanks for that good suggestion. I don't think it will work with a CP, though.
I tried using a reducer with my CP a couple of times and got it stuck each time. It wasn't cross threaded but just stuck. I kept worrying it and then it just suddenly turned off when I went back to it after a rest. That happened twice. I then threw out the reducers so it hasn't happened again.
Since the reducers were also hard to hold it was somewhat more difficult than being stuck on a lens.

God forbid it goes on the front element
Thanks everyone. I'll try googling first.
I've had the problem and used the jar grip to slowly back it off. If you tried that and it didn't work it must really be on tight. Good luck.
I've had it happen too, but fortunately got them apart after a long struggle. You might try getting them cold, don't put them under cold water, just in the fridge or freezer for a bit. That will make the metal contract ever so slightly, maybe enough to loosen them a bit.
NO! IT WILL GET EVERYBLOODYWHERE.
If you don't have the wrench (JRI) try a bit of emery cloth on the filter edge. Be careful not to scratch your lens.

Try searching "stuck filter" quite a few posts here regarding stuck/cross threaded filters. Good luck...
Hi ssohl,
I recently had a similar problem after one of the kids "helped" with a photo shoot. I used a plumber's pipe wrench to "gently" get the filter off. I adjusted the wrench so the process would be a very DELICATE procedure by....adjusting the wrench so it is slightly bigger than the filter (pipe wrenchs kind of open and close a bit when used, you want the wrench to "just barely" come in contact with the filter when it closes down). When you remove the filter from the lens be very sure the wrench jaws contact only the filter, not any part of the lens OR puchase a filter wrench like other UHHers have suggesed. In any case, proceed with care AND good luck! Take care & ...
I've had this problem too. I use a piece of fabric that is designed to hold wood so you can route it without clamps. I take the lens off the camera and cap the rear. Then I place the lens face down on the fabric, press down and twist. Usually it comes off. Also you can get someone that has a strong hand to use the rubber jar grip. I know some guys that could easily crush a filter ring so you take a slight risk. Good luck.
