Your idea of large format is how big?
You got a budget?

I sprung for an HP B9180 four years ago. I really like the print quality - prints up to 13x19, and colors are excellent. It eats ink even when not in use, though, during the self-calibration routine. When I run out of the current ink batch I am thinking about replacing it with a new Canon printer.

Consider the Canon Pixma Pro 10. Wireless printing. Ten pigment inks (including three blacks). Prints 13x19 borderless. Will print on CDs and DVDs.

Retails at $699. Haven't checked all sources, but I do know B&H has an offer where you get a $200 instant rebate and then a $200 mail-in rebate from Canon, making the final cost to you $299. Good price for a very good printer.

Canon Pro 100 is so cheap (with rebates) from B&H that you can throw it away if you don't like it. OTOH, I love mine!

I had forgotten that the Pro 100 also has the CD/DVD print tray. At $99 after rebate, it is a no brainer.

My son, gf & I each have a Canon 9000Pro,... mine,... which gets the most use is a few years old & still running strong,... never a problem. Prints are beautiful & fun to make,...:) With 8 ink tanks it can be pricey but check Adorama for best pricing for both indiviual & full pack replacement tanks. Tank use varies by color w red & green use being the slowest as it's more for banner fill. Photo cyan & photo magenta seem to get used the most so keep spares on hand. You can get quite a few 13x19 prints with a full set but again,... be ready to shell out some dinero when replacement time comes. Also,... I always use Canon OEM tanks,....never refills. As for paper,... I use either canon brand or Ilford soft pearl,... the Ilford is awesome & dries pretty much to the touch but let your prints air for a few hours if possible,... don't just start stacking them. Ilford is on sale occassionally through Adorama....:) I have had very good luck with this system & you can create your own per your type of use. The best part,... I have sold numerous photos from this printer w these papers,...:) How can ou beat that?! lol If the newer version printers are anything like mine,... set your budget & go for it! Good luck & have fun,..:)

Make sure that the computer you are going to use is compatible with your older printer.

CJsFotos and others,

I have a Canon Pixma Pro 10 that arrived in the mail this week as part of a package deal for my Canon 70D. It is still in the Canon box, and can be had for for $198, but will not include shipping. I am currently in LA visiting my newly-born grandson, and will return home Saturday. You can post a reply if interested. I will do the sale thru PayPal. I can post a photo of the box this weekend if anyone is interested.

thanks,
Ersten

CJ,

I'll email the photo of the printer box to your email address Saturday after I return from LA. In the mean time, get an idea of how much it would cost to mail it to you. It is rather heavy, so I don't want you to get sticker shock!

You may consider the Epson R3000. It prints up to 13x19 and uses large size ink cartridges that last a long time. 9 color carts. Prints beautiful on all sizes and thickness of paper and roll stock for awesome panoramas. It will print on canvas and has a CD/DVD caddy for printing discs. It is also wireless.
Plus all Epson does is imaging and they do it well. Check out B&H's price and I believe there is a rebate on it too.
