Veterans Day November 11th , Here is what you are going to do.
We are losing America’s greatest generation World War Two Veterans at about 650 a day. These are the men and women who sacrificed everything to make the freedom and prosperity you enjoy today possible. They are the greatest generation because they came together as a nation undivided and conquered the evil of Nazi Germany, the Fascism of Italy, and the Imperialism of Japan. Maybe you were sleeping in history class and do not know how great they were and the sacrifices they made. Women took over the factories so the men could go to war. Food, clothes, cars, tires, gasoline, everything was rationed so the war could be supported. The soldiers, sailors and airmen fought under horrific conditions and faced impossible odds and fought on.
So go find a World War Two Veteran this Veterans Day and let them know you appreciate what they made possible for you. Also anyone of that generation, because it was not only those in the service but the whole country was serving in the war effort. So thank your Mother, and Father, or Grandmother and Grandfather, or the old folks down the street. Put down the iPad for one day and show that you care.
Veterans Day November 11th , Here is what you are ... (show quote)

I'll support that.

Love to hear your opinions. I too am a Veteran. The Forum has room for lots of topics. I am trying for the the impossible on UHH. to have a topic free of the usual name calling and politics and just focus on respect for Veterans. Thank you for your service and your comments.

Amen & Amen -

A great post....As an old man of age 73...I have lived a wonderful life of Freedom on the backs of my that Generation.

I have one very Vivid Memory as a three or four year old child around 1943/44 of riding on a train from North Georgia to Detroit, Mich.

The train was filled with Soldiers and I can remember how wonderful they were to me as a child....as I recall I got sick on all the Cracker Jacks they were giving me, playing and entertaining me...

I often wonder how many made it back home to their young child and Families.

I Thank God for all of them their Families and all the Ladies who picked up the rivet guns, etc., and produced the war materials...too often they are forgotten.

God Bless all of them and God Bless America, in spite of all the things many of us thing are wrong....America is still the greatest Nation on earth and a Bastion of Freedoms...

I usually just sit around on Veteran's Day Weekend watching some of the great old movies that they are playing on TV, but this year I am proud to say I am helping out a friend, an old USMC veteran who has been writing his memoirs of his days in the service. It's a project that he has wanted to do for a long time in order that his children, grandchildren, and even their children will have something from him other than a few old, grainy pictures like the ones that were left for him of his dad. All he knows about his own father's experiences are trapped somewhere in those few pictures he has left and he wanted to leave more than that for his future generations.

I think it's a great idea that all of the veterans on this site might think about doing for their own families. You don't need to be a great writer, just tell it as you remember things and you will find that "your own true voice" will make it a treasured remembrance for them.

My Dad and his three brothers all served in WWII. I'll be remembering them. One uncle flew 25 missions in a B17 and another fought in the Philippines. At one time, however, they were all stationed in Miami Beach, and I have a wonderful photo of them all playing touch football on the beach. I'll try to take a photo of it and post it Monday.
