Santa heard my cries all the way to the North Pole!!

I STILL BELIEVE!!!!

Long story short, I've owned my Canon T2i for a year and a half and decided to send it out for a routine sensor clean before the holiday season. Dear Hubby bought me this as a gift through Best Buy and included a 2-year warranty which included 2 free "Black Tie" cleans.

Best Buy quoted a turnaround time of two weeks. They send the camera down to an authorized dealer in TX.

A month later, my camera is not back and I'm having heart palpitations!! I'm leaving next week to drive 10 hours to Philly and have 2 photo sightseeings scheduled, plus all the holiday family stuff I need to capture. I sat on Santa's lap this past weekend and asked for my camera back for next Thursday. (Yeah, should've seen my hubby's face!!!)

I call Geek Squad in a total and utter panic this morning and they informed me my camera is "unrepairable" and to come in for a replacement! Huh? The camera was in perfect working order when I brought it in. The Geeks concluded the camera got damaged in shipment, or someone in Texas broke it!!!

The good news is, I got an upgrade to the T3i for less than $100 and since I never sent my battery with the original camera, I now have two batteries. More importantly, my heart palpitations have stopped.

So I'm a 30-something adult WHO STILL BELIEVES IN SANTA CLAUS!!

(and yeah, yeah, I know buy through B&H next time LOL)

You were very lucky. BB didn't treat me as nice when they wiped out my hard drive on a routine repair. I have since learned that BB is not the only game in town.

BB Customer Service actually handled me pretty well. I think they got jerked around by the repair center in TX.

Same thing happen to me. Did they try to make you buy another extended warrenty??? They tried to do that with me till I told them that it was their fault and not mine that they couldnt fix the camera. I have learned thru Canon to ALWAYS use them. They have had problems with BEST BUY before.

TIGER - OMG! I wish I had seen your post!!! This is ME!!! I was a year and a half into the 2 year warranty. I did get another 2 year warranty on the new T3i, only because the swivel LCD makes me a little nervous and BB told me since this was a different camera model that a new warranty would need to be purchased.

I am in NO WAY ever sending my camera out for a clean thru Best Buy. Since the same thing happened to both of us, it's more than a Fluke. It almost sounds like a scam.

I would go back and talk to the manager. It was not your fault that the camera was unrepairable. Your warranty should have been transfered to the new camera. If they dont want to do that and then tell them you will wirte the main headquarters of Best Buy, ask manager for his/her full name, and also contact your local Better Business and of course you can also tell them you will be contacting your local TV news stations to see what they can do for you. 2 of my local news stations have trouble shooting crews that go out to business like these to get things fixed right for the consumer. After I had explained to the manager at my Best Buy that the warranty I paid for was to cover any damage of the camera on MY part. Your camera and mine was caused by THEIR company. Therefore they are the ones that have to replace the camera and NOT use your warranty. FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!

Good Luck

I get where you're coming from Tiger, but I did not replace my camera with the same model. They broke my T2i, I insisted on upgrading to a T3i, so I think by doing that I gave them a leg to stand on don't you think?

No they would of had to replace it anyway. Yes they did replace mine with the same T2I, but wanted me to purchase another warranty. They told me because it was not the same camera I HAD to but another extended warranty. Not so because the warranty covers the camera from damage caused by ME!! Just becasue they allowed you to upgrade should not allow them to use your warranty to cover the damage done by THEM. If they dont want to return your money for the warranty then tell them to take back the T3 and return your extra $100 and extend you first warranty. I bet you they wont go thru all that and do the right thing.
If I recall right the T2 is 18mp and the T3 is 12mp. There may be a few other things different besides the swivel LCD.

BB will also tell you that someone in the store has opened a box without permission and offer you a discount on a camera when it has really already been used by someone. I bought a P500 from them and they said, "Oh we will give you a 10 percent discount becuause this one has been opened by a customer in our store." I thought ok since I will be able to get the extra warranty and camera for the regular price of the camera. Took the camera home and charged per instructions. Well it finished charging about an hour before it was supposed to, but I took it and snapped about 10 pics in the house. Got up the next morning and the camera was completely dead. Charged it again and afterwards I decided to take a few more test shots. I extended the zoom and started to take pics. The whole camera froze. I couldn't get the zoom back it I couldn't even get it to turn off. I had to take the battery out. Then I realized when it had finished charging the first time I was never asked by the camera what language to use like the instructions said and it never asked me to put the date and time in either. Most likely someone had purchased that camera taken it home charged it, used it a little and had buyers remorse or they were having problems with it too and returned it and it ended up in my hands. I took it back got a refund and then purchased one online. I will be a lot more careful when purchasing from BB in the future. If I ever decide I want to purchase something from them again after that. (At least they didn't give me any problems with bringing it back although they couldn't find any malfunction with it when they were testing it upon my return of it.)

SEE! BestBuy & the Geeks aren't the be all-end all. They had my computer for 3 months before I got it back with a wiped hard drive.

Maybe I should start a new topic..."Who here hates BestBuy?"
