wildlife motion detector for camera trigger (night photography)

Folks, I did a search a number of different ways in the forum but nothing really came up for me. I'm looking for an (of course) inexpensive motion detector to trigger my camera. Use will be to photograph animals at night (maybe bigfoot lol)that are wary of humans and such. I probably would mount the camera in a tree focused on a food source to entice the animal(s) to come out and feed. I seem to remember a member of UHH built his own unit and I just can't find the post. Any help is greatfully appreciated.

Thank You all

I don't know anything about a trigger for an existing camera, but you can get specialized cameras for that purpose from a variety of sources. They aren't very expensive.

I sell a Lightning trigger that also doubles as a motion trigger. It is by Micronova and sells for $95 for either Nikon or Canon, with cables included. They work very good on lightning but to be totally honest I have never set one up to use as a motion sensor.

You have an interesting sales approach. Care to elaborate?

I think you'd be better off buying a camera specifically made for this purpose, it would already be weatherproof and easy to mount. They sell at most sporting goods stores.

I've used Magic Lantern (a very popular firmware add on for several canon models) to photograph birds hitting my backyard feeder. There is a motion detect feature
That might be all you need and it's free.
It's a hack of sorts but I've never heard of anyone having major issues with it.
If you are reasonably comfortable around computers give magic lantern a look.

I have one of those and it works fine on Motion, but I've never used it on Lightening :P

Check out the AEO MultiTrigger Pro Nature Trigger Micro Series ..... it will activate your shutter on either motion or lightning ....AEO Photo makes several different units at different prices .... I have used it for both motion and lightning .... it works ....it will not work through glass

I bought a camera from Gander Mountain that most deer and bear hunters use. They are mounted a tree and are motion sensitive. They take decent photos, and are run by battery. You can leave them alone for several days. Mine cost a little less than $100. My nephew got some good photos of deer, my brother got some photos of bear and a bald eagle that landed at his bear baiting area. The deer were taken in the day time, but the bear were taken at night time and were decent shots.
