Previously posted in the Photo Gallery, I am interested in hearing critique from this section mainly concerning composition, colors, and the degree of impact the image projects. Thank You. 8-)

Photographed with Micro-Nikkor 105mm with settings of ISO 400, 105mm, f/16, 1/60 sec w/flash.

I like flower closeups. Just noticed you used flash. I think you might get better results without flash. I was wondering, what are all those light specks? Probably caused by the flash. You got pretty good focus at the center of the flower. The color looks a little too bright to me. I think the flash might have lost you some richness and depth of color and detail. Can you try it again without the flash and see what happens?

I think the specs are part of the structure of the flower, lit up by the flash. Flower bling maybe. :)

I can try it again yes, but will have to wait for next year...that flower is gone now. Thanks for the critique Heirloom. 8-)

The outdoor flowers are gone, but we have a great nursery near here and they've got indoor blooms all year. If I get an urge to shoot flowers before spring, I'm going there. I shoot lots of flowers and never use flash. Just an idea! Love your various photos, by the way.

Oregon is a bit far for me to travel for winter flower photos. Teasing
Thanks. :)

I'll bet you've got some great greenhouse nurseries in NY, too, if you start to long for flowers before springtime. :P

I like the composition. You got the center of focus out of the center of the frame. I agree with the flash. If you can do without, it might be better. This is a good photo.

I like it very much! I wouldn't mind seeing the "un-blung" version because it is a little My Little Pony-ish, shall we say :-) , but my main thing (VERY nit-picky) is that at that close range, with DOF measured in microns, the focus seems to be just a hair back from the carpel, and that's where I always look when I do this. What I started doing (assuming hand held or slightly vibrating flower or both) was to shoot in bursts. It's utter cheating, I know, but then I open everything and discard anything where I can't count the pollen grains on the carpel. It's REALLY nit-picky and I apologize, because I think it's a fabulous, very high impact picture!

Thanks Chuck for your detailed and accurate critique. Yes, the focus on the carpel is not tack sharp. You are correct about shooting in bursts. 8-)
