This is a subject I played around with in the past, My current camera is indisposed at the moment so I can't take any shots to explain it but this is a good example from myself :) please feel free to post some of your own shots with a secondary lighting source

Since you are new'ish it would be good to know about a few forums.
Photo Gallery is like a coffee shop wall. Come as you like and comment on the pretty pictures
Photo Critique & Analysis Forum is where you can get honest feedback about things you might not even have known were wrong
Photo Analysis is where you go with a specific problem, like why do my photos have this weird spot
