I think it's funny! I like the second one better because it's hard to see that the camera was not square to the square plate, although you could easily do a perspective correction on the first one and retain the black border, and I don't think it would distort the chips enough to notice. The light is a little flat. The contrast could be punched up a little, and maybe increase the white. It is a hoot!

Ya got me. Not your usual food shot JR. I'd scramble those eggs!! The only thing I might have tried when I made the shot would be to put it in a diamond orientation, which could be done with an edit program, but I just learned the first part of that rotate thing this morning so it's still beyond my skill level to accomplish.

Begs the question: Why? These objects are completely incongruous and there does not seem to be a connection. I suppose there is some interest in the juxtaposition of white and black; but, to be hones, it eludes me.

I personally think it's the incongruity that's hilarious. What drew me to this in the first place was the title, Egg and Chips. Correct me if I am wrong, JR, but you folks say "chips" for what we Yanks call "French fries," batons of deep-fried potato (which incidentally may not be French). So I looked expecting to see fried potatoes and got—Chips! And I laughed out loud! Nice job, JR!

So that said, I don't see where the white is blown out anywhere except where expected, in highly specular reflections. I sometimes wonder about folks's monitor calibrations. I'm pretty sure mine is right (I just checked it). I decided to try to make the picture look like my vision of it, shot from pretty much straight overhead. It could be lit better (I know you were just havin' fun, JR). I might have suggested a big soffbox opposite the camera at about 45° from the plate to back light it with more light falling on the black chips. It would give it more modeling and better color, but here's my take:

Yep I do like that and THAT is THE reason I say alter my shots, some are huffy and don't like their masterpieces altered, you don't learn by not listening to others.

Thanks
