Wow, and the wind was blowing pretty good. I wish the surfer was a little more to the right, giving him room to run it out.

That is a wild shot you captured, JR. I would do anything for waves like this so I could practice my long exposure shots.
I do have a question for you. I experienced waves like this one time. I was up on the North Shore of Lake Superior. The wind was so fierce I could barely stand. How do you protect your camera and keep yourself and your equipment stable while shooting in conditions like this?

Maybe I'll post a shot of what I got sometime today and have you come and take a look. I wasn't happy with the results, but I wasn't upset either since it was my first time, and I didn't expect much.

I would second this. It's a marvelous shot, perfectly exposed, detail everywhere—if you cropped a little from right I don't think you'd lose anything of great value over there, and you'd move your surfer a little closer to the "Suggestion of Thirds" which I think would be stronger. :-)

I really like this shot JR. I like the action, the raised arms and the swirl of water off of the board. The exposure and focus looks great. The only thing I would change is I would crop a little off the right and top to bring the surfer out of the center of the picture, but keeping the beautiful swirl of water flying off of his surf board.

Great shot, JR1. There is always something that "makes" the photo work. IMO, is the posture of the surfer. The arms creating this near circle above his head and the perfect focus is what does it for me.
