If you haven't visited the new PS&A Section yet, I encourage you to do so. We are working very hard at creating a learning environment for all, and I am quite pleased with what I see happening in the section.

Before you participate, Please read the section rules. We strictly adhere to the rules and enforce them. There are a couple of rules I have "tweaked", and I have added a rule. Here is the URL to the section rules.

http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-159520-1.html

Rule #7 is the new rule. It is important to stay on topic so that the OP can get the most out of the Critique offered. Posts devolving into personal arguments are deleted.

7) Personal insults will not be tolerated. Any posts that are deemed insulting will be removed. Any comments linked to the insults will be removed. Any remarks that are inflammatory will be removed. Moderators of the section will determine what is insulting and inflammatory. Stay on topic, keep it friendly, and there will not be a problem. Thank you and have fun!

I tweaked Rule #1. Now if you click the (store original) box it will be implied that you are giving permission to others to edit your photo for you, unless you specifically ask them not to when you post. here is the rule.

1) By submitting a photo you are automatically asking for critique and advice on how to improve. Checking the (store original) box gives permission for others to edit your photo and or may make it easier for them to critique. If you do not want others to edit your photos you must clearly specify this. If someone edits without permission please send a Private Message (PM) to Nightski or Country's Mama.

I tweaked Rule #2. One photo is permitted per thread, as we can only critique one photo at a time. However it is permissible to post 2 versions of the same photo for comparison now with the revised rule.

2) One photo is allowed per thread. If you initially post more than one photo, the post will be deleted. The one exception to this rule is if you have two versions of the same photo for comparison purposes.

Please understand, that I put quite a bit of thought into all the rules. I consulted with Country's Mama, St3v3M, and Captain C before I made these changes. I have considered the views I have received through countless PM's. Not everyone will agree with what I have done, but I feel that these rules will best ensure the success of the section. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Regards, Nightski

Some people just don't like rules - you need to take what they say with a pinch of salt.

I think these rules are becoming exemplary. Monitors of other sections should take note of what you're doing here  .

You and CountrysMama are doing a fantastic job. In my opinion it is the absolute best section on this site. It is a place where some real learning takes place, not to mention viewing some fantastic photos.
The rules are fair, reasonable, and needed.
Good job!

PERFECT new rule, perfect tweaks! It's so much easier to follow posts when you don't have to wade through unrelated chit chat :)

I like all these changes except the tweak on rule #1 which changes an important rule which has always been part of the entire forum. Namely, that you must ask for and receive permission prior to downloading and editing another's work.

Now merely checking the store original box gives tacit approval for someone to edit your work. This is contrary to the rule in all the other sections and will further confuse this issue and perhaps inhibit folks from posting in the new section or checking the store original box while posting.

Can't quite understand what is so hard about simply asking for permission to edit, it's the way it has been for the forum since inception. Oh well, just my opinion. Thanks for listening. 8-)

The store box also allows us to see the Properties of the file in order to help use do opinions and form conclusions. So now the OP does not have this choice. Not to good of a move I feel.

The OP can specify that he/she does not wish to have anyone edit their photo. Here are the reasons for this slight deviation from the rule that applies in the rest of the website.

1) Most of the photos posted are photos that have issues that the OP wants to resolve. I can not possibly police a rule that says you have to ask permission. How would I, or anyone else know, if the OP has been asked? Someone may have PM'd the OP and asked permission.

2) If it is up to the OP to state that they do not want anyone to edit their photos it makes it much easier for me and other posters to monitor. I can see that the OP publicly said no, and I can simply delete any edits done in a thread where permission has been denied in the initial post. I don't have time to PM every OP and ask if they gave permission.

3)Since this section is about working on our photography skills and photos it is different than all the other sections. There is not another section where almost every photo has some editing done to it.

I would like to add another thought. Not every photo can benefit from post processing. Sometimes the photographer needs to go back out and try again. There is no shame in telling someone this or in having to go back out with new ideas on how to capture something. I would like everyone to read this link posted by Captain C. It is excellent.
