Wondering what everyones thoughts are on this image.

A judicious crop would go a long way. The dark area in the bottom left is highly distracting.

Bushido - "the way of the warrior". It's fitting. My first impression when I looked at this was that it had a very Japanese feeling to it. I know, because I was stationed there for 3 years during my tour in the Navy.

I enjoy a good minimalist photo every once in a while. Have you tried it with different crops to see what pleases you?

I like it! But I agree with Bob that the lower left corner is a distraction. I just masked it off with my hand and it considerably improves the picture. If you want to keep the open feel of the surround (i.e. not crop), it would be a simple matter to clone out the hole-in-the-wall and it would make a big difference. The picture does have a very Zen feel.

I will clone that corner and see what it looks like then crop it if it still needs it. Will post when I have it done. Thanks everyone for your comments.

Navy gets all the good duty stations. What years were you there?

Really? As an off-line crypto operator, I spent 18-months stationed in Iceland, then 18-months on Yankee Station, then 6-months on a flat top in the Med, before obtaining an European Out-muster. I have heard about 'good' Navy duty stations, just never seen one.

1985 to 1987, stationed at Yokosuka, toured most of the islands, climbed Mt. Fuji, visited both Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and personally viewed Emperor Hirohito. Damn!, I wish I had my Canon DSLR back then.

And in response to Nikonian, my first tour as a Naval Officer was in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for 3 years. Now THAT was sweet! Went scuba diving or body surfing every weekend that I didn't have duty.

I guess some have it and some don't. I don't, two tours Southeast Asia.

I think this is what everyone suggested. Cloned the wall and re-cropped.

I like it, but I wonder if it has shifted a little cyan? The first one was warmer and I liked it warmer.

Yes, I noticed the shift also. It happened in the changing from one program to another. I have noticed in several of my past posts to UHH that either the colors shift or the density of the B&Ws changes. Not sure why.
