Excellent. Thought provoking image. Because (for me), the color of the bag draws my eye away from the gentleman on the bench-- I would like to see this as a monochrome.

I Like the detail and the composition with the long bench acting as a leading line and the subject framed by the can and the bag. Although the yellow of the bag most certainly draws the eye, as the subject is right next to it I do not think it distracts from the subject but accentuates it. Although I know it's not, everything seems so perfectly placed as to be posed. A strong image. 8-)

Edit: Just noticed the blue at the top of that bag that compliments the blue can. A photograph well put together indeed.

Thanks LoneRangeFinder, I did post a monochrome version of a similar shot in "Gallery" not too long ago.
I'll have a think about this one.

I like this image Graham,

I like most all of your images. They appear to be thought out and cropped correctly. You have produced some of the finest street shots on UHH.

Your images fit more in the street photography category than mine. I'm more of a street portrait guy. That being said I would have done one thing differently. This is more opinion than a right or wrong thing. I would have removed the yellow bag. Because of the color and brightness your eye is going to struggle to look at the subject which is the guy. I do realize that with your style of shooting this may not have been possible.

Nice Shot in any event. It is interesting.

Thank you Russ, your comments are much valued and appreciated. I'll repeat what I just said to Bmac "I'm a show it like it is type of guy. I don't pretty up an image, perhaps the reverse" I'm sure you understand where I'm coming from.

Regards
Graham

Either way. I loved the B&W version of this prior to this post and this one I have no way to improve. The color of the bag is part of the street scene. You wouldn't change the color of the ale can, clean up the litter or make the mars on the bench go away. Its all part of his life.

This looks great in color. Love the yellow bag, it brings a contemporary touch and adds to the impact of the composition. The photo says Contentment to me much more than Sadness.

I think he looks rather content. And the photo looks excellent to my eyes, yellow bag and all. Bet he rather likes his yellow bag.

Boredom, nostalgia, the life that might have been.
Just getting through another day.
I take on board the comments Russ makes about the yellow bag and mono would fix that, but maybe the bag provides a juxtaposition against the almost drab city colouring.
Thought provoking.

Graham, I have seen your work before and admire your exemplary talent as a photography. It seems all your work tells a story and this one is no exception.
The wonderful part of this photo is that the story is written by the viewer. The first look had my mind racing to find the details to tells the story and they were all there perfectly lighted and placed. This is a powerful photo, so thought provoking. One I shall remember for some time. This photo needs no adjusting.
Thank you for sharing....John
