This is not the shot I set out to take this morning, but there is something about it I like. I am curious though what you will say and do to it.
Have fun modify as needed. Cheers.

You've caught the bird in a funny pose. I think with some PP this could be a great shot. You'll be able to pull the texture out in the sand. The blown water is a problem, but cropping and toning down highlights should help that. How am I doing? Maybe I will try an edit. :-)

Oddly, it is the blown water I think I like, but always!
- I am heading out to shoot some more, but will check in later. Thanks!

I like it, too. Color corrected slightly. The gull still looks a little blue but it probably looked that way. I cropped a bit, which emphasizes the gull and reduces the highlight area on the sea, and removed a few dark spots from the water and the seafoam. Just a few little changes...

If you're going out again, if possible, try shooting with the light coming from your side or over your shoulder. The idea is to get the little spot of light reflecting in the eye. This really important if the animal has pure black eyes or you're too far away to see the color/iris/pupil. Otherwise, the eye is just a flat black spot with no depth.

Agree, but was facing into the sun at sunrise. May try again at sunset. Thanks!

For anyone who wants to play with this more I have included a JPG of the untouched RAW photo and a new treatment changing the crop to follow the gulls eye. Have fun and thank you everyone!
