Lightroom Update Error Again

Okay I posted early that I got an error 1304 msg about asneu.dll. I have Windows XP. Snowbear gave me a link to try and I did. I again reinstalled Lightroom 3, then the 3.6 update which went all the way through no error messages. However, now if I try to open Lightroom my system freezes up and the only I can get out is to turn it off. If I just have Lightroom3.2 (without the update) it works just fine. Any ideas? I'm thinking to just simply use Lightroom 3.2. I have 4 gbyts ram and lots of room on the hard drive. Maybe I just don't have enough memory to run the LR with the up date.? Ceil

It might be some kind of conflict, but it's been a while since I played with the Win machines.

I'd run 3.2 for the time being and post, or at least, watch the Adobe support forums. Someone else may be having the same issue.

I had that happen to me, running Windows 7 preferred. I uninstalled Lightroom, and reinstalled it again, and since, the upgrades have installed and run without a problem.

You MUST RESTART your computer after you reinstall the program for it to take effect. If you have restarted after reinstall and still get the error
go to http://www.dlllab.com/asneu.dll_download.html and download it.

If it is a warz version I can not help you as it could be anything.

I have restarted my computer. I initially made the mistake of not doing that. I do not know what warz means. I have a legal copy of that is what you are referring to. I will go to the above link and download, and check it out.

I really, really, appreciate everyone's help. I'll let you know if it works. Ceil

There maybe a problem with Windows XP. This is by current standards an old program (but still better than Vista). As is common with Windows, they are NOT interested in making sure that other programs are compatible with an older Windows version. It is up to Adobe to make the adjustments. They have probably made upgrades in Lightroom based on Windows 7 and have not got around to considering or making patches for XP.
Just a thought.
Is there anything on Adobe website concerning freezes that you describe?

Uninstallers don't remove everything. They remove "the big pieces." Sometimes, bits and pieces get left behind, including cache (temporary) files. The nastiest problems involve leftovers in the System Registry. You should contact Adobe tech support. Check the forums first, if you want, maybe you'll get lucky. But odds are you'll need a guided trip through the Registry to remove some odds and ends. Also, check to see if Adobe has an advanced uninstaller. Sometimes, they have one which scours your system more thoroughly than the built-in uninstaller features.

Good luck. You'll need it.

This is a real possibility. However, do NOT under any circumstances go into the registry file (regedit) unless you
know EXACTLY what you are doing.

Which is EXACTLY why I said to contact Adobe tech support. They SHOULD know how to walk you through exactly what needs to be done. (I say "SHOULD" because there are NO guarantees, and if they tell you to delete "X" and you delete "X" and your system won't reboot, they'll shrug and hang up). Adobe is Adobe and supports Adobe products, and their support should be good in this kind of situation. If your system came with XP installed (what system doesn't come with the OS installed?), it has an OEM serial number, and Microsoft won't help you out. They'll refer you to Dell or HP or whoever sold you the system. And sometimes, their tech support even knows what they're doing. Sometimes.

Still, your best bet is Adobe tech support.

Don't know when you tried this but I just got a memo from Adobe yesterday regarding an update I had to download. Check Adobe for their latest updates........

Well here's the tale. I went to the suggested link, purchased the Registry Cleaner. On first run it found over 6,000 (six thousand, not a typo)pieces of stuff to fix. I spent a good deal of the day, starting and restarting my computer. It now has it down to 121 registry errors. Sooooooo, I installed Lightroom version 3.6 and it still freezes up my computer. So I uninstalled, reinstalled Lightroom 3.2 and will use that until someone smarter than I am can fix it for me.

Rest assured that I would never, never, ever, personally go into the registry. I would not have a clue about what I was looking at or what to do.

Perhaps tomorrow the computer world will be in better alignment over my house.

I also check with Adobe Support tomorrow, but not tonight. I'm so tired of turning this damn thing on and off I could scream. :-) Ceil

A couple of FYIs. I don't know where you found the link to Registry Cleaner. Maybe someone posted it here. You probably could have done just as well with CCleaner, which is a free download at cnet.com. Second FYI: ANYTHING that goes near your Registry is potentially dangerous. Reliable software can still whack some essential component because it has been compromised.

If Adobe tech support tells you to edit your Registry, cross your fingers (you should already have been doing that with Registry Cleaner), and follow their directions TO THE LETTER. They will tell you how to get into the Registry, and, step by step, how to locate and remove things. Also, once in there, you should run a backup of the Registry first.

Good luck.
