I went down to the river this morning because it is rutting season. I had just started to do some stalking of a few deer when this guy on a bicycle stops about 100 yards away out on the road. he begins by yelling hello to me and waving his arms.
I then watch my deer fade into the cover as he traipses across to greet me. He introduced himself as a novice photographer and was looking for some suggestions on taking better wildlife images. of course I wanted to tell him one good starter is not to yell and wave your hands when wildlife are present...but I didn't. After about 20 minutes, he finally received a phone call from the other person he was with wanting to know when he would be coming along. Yeah, my excuse to leave.
I wished him luck and set after the deer now somewhere in the thicket. Stalking quietly into the denser brush provided me with some cover, so I pulled out the call from my pocket and made a bit of noise. Here are some of the images I was able to glean from today's Lack of excitement.
Hope you enjoy them. Hope I didn't post too many for you.

Turned out to be a good day for you after all!! The series is beautiful  It must be difficult to focus in the thick brush with the deer blending in :D
Great job. Thanks for sharing. Bee

Thanks. Yes it is. Sometimes I just turn the autofocus off.

You are welcome. I was in full camo. The deer heard the shutter clicking, but were unsure of what was making the noise. The female kept coming over, stamping her feet and snorting, trying to get me to move. She new I was something, but for the darndest reason, she couldn't get me to move.
That's flat out good work!!

As I'm reading your post sitting here in Iowa where deer season has just begun, I'm trying to imagine a photographer doing the same thing here in camo without getting shot. I wouldn't dare go anywhere near a deer this time of year not wearing blaze orange, but I'm glad you're able to. Thanks for posting.

The chance of getting shot here at this time of the year would be remarkable since the season is closed and the deer were in the regional park. You are welcome and thank you for looking. You guys back there are more fortunate to be able to hunt during the rut. It is far easier to take the males then.

I am glad you enjoy them Steve. I spend a considerable amount of time in the outdoors and love to share the images I take.
