Not sure what a Sony Vegas is.
When I use Windows DVD burner it has Scenes and the Play button.
First there are many beautiful options on the Style.
I like the crackly one the looks like an old film strip till you push Play or Scenes.

Then choose your font type and title.

Each video clip you add (in my case music videos) is a scene/chapter and a group of photos is a chapter. You can add music and transitions to those right there.

You can decide what is going to play over and over and over until you wake up because the DVD is finished.

If someone ask this and was using Windows I would guess they are loading all photos.

I would suggest they use windows movie maker to create each scene/chapter individually
with a short group of photos/videos adding the music, transitions + fade in/fade/out's and name these 'files'
In the order you want them storing them all in the same folder.
Open the DVD maker and Drag them into position.

If you already have one long video, chop it in the movie maker to create the desired scenes before using a dvd burner.

Sony approach in Vegas is to have a separate DVD creation program called DVD Architect Studio 5.0.

Vegas looks like an excellent editor but it's way above my pay grade.

And what's the price on the prosumer version? Is it worth it?

The latest version ,Vegas moviestudio platinum 12, can be downloaded from the sony creative software website for$79.95. I have been using it in its earlier incarnations for 8 or 9 years. You can download a trial version and check it out for yourself. It has a steeper learning curve than some but well worth it!

JR- you need to put in chapter markers on your timeline. Then in Architech you will have to menu pages and the 2nd one shows the chapters. It gets very confusing in Architech,IMHO. You really need a book or video to help you along. I use one of VASST's dvd's to teach me how and have to look at it every time.
Vegas has a steep learning curve. Maybe all video editors do.

The rendering and the title/chapter pages is always the hardest part. Adding media to the timeline, editing your video and photos, adding music is all fairly easy. Hope this helps. You seem pretty savvy , so I'm sure you will get it.
