Red Tailed Hawk

Second time out with this new lens...Nikon 300mm F4. I was hopping to get a few ducks in-flight over at the local pond...no luck....when this guy passed over-head. 2 shots and he was off to the west...straight into the sun. It does take some time to get used to a new lens...after a few times trying to focus with the lens hood...well...lol

Excellent shot, Bret. Sounds like a Mickey Mouse lens you have there. :D :D

Nice shot Bret, I love catching them in flight like that. Nice detail for a flyer. Earlier this summer I had one pose for me on top of a power pole in my back yard, got him setting and flying away.

Hi Bret, thanks for posting! Yup, it can take a bit of practice getting used to a new lens but you seem to be well on the way. Keep that lens cap in your pocket!

Thank you all for the comments. One thing Iv'e noticed with this lens is some haze...so it looks like a good B&W UV filter is on the shopping list.
